OK, feeling a bit stupid here. I've never encountered an issue with a CD player not playing a CD (other than it's not able to play some formats - rare).
So if you have a CD like DSOM and Yes Songs then the ERC-4 won't play it? or it will play it but put a pause between tracks that really should not be there?
Not stupid, just a small misunderstanding. The gapless issue is that with musical content like Dark Side of the Moon where it was intentionally meant as one long running piece of music with a CDP that does NOT do gapless there will be an ever so slight and brief pause between the transitions. I just played DSOM last night, the remastered version from Mobile Fidelity and on about 1/3rd to half the songs the "created" gap on my ERC-4 was almost unnoticeable or at least not intrusive, however on the rest of them there was a bit of an electronic snap + half second delay being a bit more disconcerting. None of this is a show stopper for me, and as Keith pointed out anyone can rip a disc, then reburn with gapless included in the disc so that the player doesn't have to deal with it. So the long and short of it is they will play, just with some brief interruptions that bothers some people more than others. Its not clear to me why Emotiva left the gapless capability out of this player because it sure seems to be a bone of contention and justifiably so for many. One would not think it to be too difficult to program a CDP to accomplish this, but its what it is.
