IMPORTANT - READ THIS FIRST !!!
FIRMWARE VERSION 2.5 IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE
*DO NOT* ATTEMPT TO INSTALL VERSION 2.5 ON ANY PROCESSOR THAT HAS VERSION 3.xx INSTALLED ON IT !!!
*DO NOT* ATTEMPT TO INSTALL ANY VERSION 2.xx ON ANY PROCESSOR THAT HAS VERSION 3.xx INSTALLED ON IT !!!
IF YOU DO SO YOU WILL RENDER YOUR PROCESSOR INOPERATIVE
IF THIS HAPPENS YOUR PROCESSOR WILL HAVE TO BE RETURNED TO EMOTIVA TO BE RE_FLASHED
IF YOU HAVE ANY OLDER FIRMWARE VERSIONS SAVED ON A USB STICK YOU SHOULD DELETE THEM
IF YOU USE A USB STICK YOU SHOULD MAKE SURE THAT THERE ARE NO PREVIOUS VERSIONS OF FIRMWARE PRESENT
YOU CAN FIND A LINK TO THE CURRENT V3.1 FIRMWARE HERE:

FIRMWARE v2.5 IS THE CURRENT FIRMWARE VERSION FOR THE RMC-1, RMC-1L, and XMC-2 AS OF 1/18/2022.
FIRMWARE v2.5 SUPERSEDES ALL OLDER FIRMWARE VERSIONS for the RMC-1, RMC-1L, and XMC-2
YOU MAY INSTALL FIRMWARE v2.5 ON ALL EXISTING RMC-1, RMC-1L, and XMC-2 PROCESSORS.
WE CONSIDER THIS TO BE A RECOMMENDED UPDATE.
Link to firmware version v2.5 released on 1/18/2022:
(link no longer available)
MANY UNITS SHIPPED IN THE PAST SEVERAL WEEKS WERE SHIPPED WITH FIRMWARE VERSION v2.4 INSTALLED ON THEM.
AS OF 1/18/2022 UNITS ARE NOW SHIPPING WITH FIRMWARE VERSION v2.5 INSTALLED ON THEM.
HOWEVER...
YOU **MUST NOT*** ATTEMPT TO INSTALL OLDER FIRMWARE ("BACK-REV") UNITS THAT WERE SHIPPED WITH v2.4 OR v2.5 ON THEM.
YOU **MUST NOT*** ATTEMPT TO INSTALL FIRMWARE v2.3 OR OLDER FIRMWARE ON UNITS THAT WERE SHIPPED WITH v2.4 OR v2.5 ON THEM.
YOU **MUST NOT*** ATTEMPT TO INSTALL FIRMWARE v2.4 OR OLDER FIRMWARE ON UNITS THAT WERE SHIPPED WITH v2.5 ON THEM.
ATTEMPTING TO DO SO WILL RESULT IN YOUR PROCESSOR HAVING TO BE SENT BACK TO THE FACTORY TO BE RE-FLASHED.GOING FORWARD, IF YOU ARE UNSURE WHAT VERSION OF FIRMWARE YOUR PROCESSOR SHIPPED WITH...
**DO NOT** ATTEMPT TO INSTALL FIRMWARE VERSIONS OLDER THAN v2.5 ON YOUR PROCESSOR.
DIFFERENCES:
In recent weeks we have made some minor hardware changes to boards in the RMC-1, RMC-1L, and XMC-2 processors.
Firmware v2.5 was released primarily to ensure that all firmware going forward will work with ALL existing hardware.
The only difference in functionality between v2.3 and v2.5 is a minor bug fix to bass management when running dual subs.
There are no significant differences in features or functionality between v2.4 and v2.5 .)
(However the new hardware **WILL NOT** WORK with older firmware.)
UPDATE INSTRUCTIONS:
1) Download the firmware update file and place it in the main folder of a USB stick formatted as FAT32
- the USB stick you use must be formatted as FAT32 on a Windows computer or purchased as "compatible with Windows and Apple computers"
(USB sticks formatted with the default FAT32 format on an Apple computer will not work)
- IF YOU'VE GOT A STICK PURCHASED AS "FOR APPLE OR WINDOWS COMPUTERS" AND YOU HAVEN'T REFORMATTED IT THEN IT WILL PROBABLY WORK FINE
- you MAY download and copy the file using a Windows or Apple computer
- make sure there are no other firmware update files in the main folder on the stick
- the download will arrive in the form of a firmware file - which is the actual firmware update file
(don't worry about the file extension - there is no need to extract this file)
2) Insert the USB stick with the file on it into the USB update port on the front panel of your processor
3) Enter the Setup Menu and select SETUP | ADVANCED | FIRMWARE UPDATE command
4) Use the UP ARROW to check the box, then the LEFT ARROW to confirm the update and start the update process
5) DO NOT INTERRUPT THE UPDATE PROCESS UNTIL IT HAS COMPLETED
- the update process will normally take about ten minutes
- if the update process stops unexpectedly... and appears to have "hung-up"... WAIT THIRTY MINUTES... then turn the unit off and on again using the main power switch
6) The processor will usually shut down after the update process completes successfully
- at this point you may remove the USB stick and turn the processor off and on again
- if the processor DOES NOT shut down after twenty minutes, and the display continues to show Updating Front Panel, then the update has probably completed successfully
(if this happens, wait an additional ten minutes to make sure the update has completed, then turn the unit off and on again using the main power switch)
7) Enter the Setup Menu, select SETUP | INFORMATION, and confirm that "Firmware Version" now shows "2.5"
NOTE:
This file updates the RMC-1 family of processors (RMC-1, RMC-1L, and XMC-2).
This file DOES NOT update the XMC-1 and should NOT be used to do so.
This file DOES NOT update the XMC-1 and should NOT be used to do so.
NOTE:
Because of the way DropBox file storage service interacts with your Web browser this file may download
as either "EmotivaUpdate-2_5-2022_01_14" or "EmotivaUpdate-2_5-2022_01_14.docs" or "EmotivaUpdate-2_5-2022_01_14.DAT".
There is no need to rename the file to use it to update your processor.
HOWEVER, since this is a special firmware file, if you try to open the file, or extract it, or test it, as a ZIP archive, it will fail.
This is NORMAL and does NOT mean that the file is bad.
NOTE:
In some specific situations DropBox WILL actually archive the firmware update file into a a ZIP file.
This depends on various things, including the type of computer you have, the browser you use and how it is configured, and whether you download multiple files at the same time.
So, if the file arrives with a ZIP extension, AND THE PROCESSOR SAYS THAT IT'S NOT A FIRMWARE FILE, try UnZipping the file.
(You can also try UnZipping the file immediately... If you get an error it will probably mean that you don't really have a ZIP file but it won't hurt anything.)
NOTE:
The Ethernet port on our processors takes a full 30 seconds to completely reset when you power the unit down.If you power the processor off, then on again, without waiting long enough, the Ethernet port will not restart properly.
Therefore, if your processor reboots as part of an update, and it restarts too quickly, you may lose network connectivity.
If so, try simply powering the unit down, and waiting a full 30 seconds before powering it back on.
UPDATE NOTES:
Firmware version 2.5 SUPERSEDES AND REPLACES ALL PREVIOUS FIRMWARE VERSIONS and we recommend that all users install it.
Firmware version 2.5 incorporates all of the features included in previous firmware versions plus some minor.
UPDATE NOTE: [added 2/18/2021]
If you use the Video Remains On standby feature ("high power standby")...
Only the TV connected to HDMI Output #2 will receive audio when the processor is in Standby.
GENERAL UPDATE NOTES:
1)
YOU WILL NOT BE REQUIRED TO PERFORM A FACTORY RESET ON YOUR PROCESSOR AFTER INSTALLING THIS UPDATE.
However, depending on your speaker configuration, you may find that certain height speaker configurations produce unexpected results after this update. If this happens you may have to do a Factory Reset. At that point you MAY try restoring settings you have previously saved.
However, if that is unsuccessful, you MAY be required to re-enter your configuration settings manually.
2)
IF YOU ENCOUNTER ANY ODD BEHAVIOR AFTER PERFORMING THE UPDATE...
PROCESSOR USAGE NOTES:
We have become aware that many of the problems people have been experiencing are due to compatibility issues between modern HDMI 2.0 devices
WE SUGGEST THAT YOU RESET ALL OF THE HDMI DEVICES YOU HAVE CONNECTED TO YOUR PROCESSOR.
TO DO THIS: PHYSICALLY UNPLUG THE POWER ON YOUR PROCESSOR, YOUR TV OR PROJECTOR, AND ALL CONNECTED HDMI DEVICES.
Everything must be unplugged AT THE SAME TIME for at least ten seconds.
This will ensure that all of your devices go through a full reboot.
(We DO NOT REQUIRE this but, if you have ANY problems, then you should do it.)

PROCESSOR USAGE NOTES:
We have become aware that many of the problems people have been experiencing are due to compatibility issues between modern HDMI 2.0 devices
and older HDMI 1.4b devices. (HDMI 2.0 is supposed to be backwards compatible with older devices - but some people experience issues when connecting
HDMI 1.4 devices to HDMI 2.0 inputs.)YOU CAN CONFIGURE EACH INPUT ON THE RMC-1. RMC-1L, and XMC-2 FOR MAXIMUM COMPATIBILITY WITH
EITHER HDMI 2.0 OR HDMI 1.4 DEVICES. (Note that, when you set an Input to HDMI 1.4, that Input will no longer allow 4k video, which HDMI 1,4 doesn't support,
until you set it back to HDMI 2.0 .)
