1. A replacement for the Stealth DC-1 DAC - Although there are a lot of good and inexpensive DACs on the market, I think Emotiva could do one better. I base this on their Big Ego+ DAC that (despite its modest price and size) produces absolutely excellent sound. If Emotiva can do so well with such a restricted budget, what could they do on a less constrained one?
2. A line-level, outboard stereo crossover - Although there are a plethora of "pro audio" crossovers on the market, the only two "high end" ones are the JL Audio CR-1 and the (long discontinued) Dahlquist DQ-LP1. AV gear offers built in crossovers, but most stereo gear doesn't.
3. A "statement grade" pair of stereo loudspeakers - This would be a true 20-20kHz pair of speakers with either built-in passive woofers capable of 20Hz. output or else with built-in, powered subs. Emotiva COULD do this and I'd love to hear their results.

Emotiva is a boring company for the 2 channel crowd now. Nothing exciting like a few years ago. Hi brutiarti - I must reluctantly agree with you. I predicted at the time that Emotiva first jumped into the AV world that the AV part of their business would quickly consume the company. Time has proven me absolutely right. Emotiva has devoted the lion's share of its total engineering and marketing resources to AV products and despite promises to its (formerly) loyal two-channel customers, has either discontinued or failed to update most of its stereo-only products. There are notable exceptions (particularly in the BasX line), but "top quality two channel" products from Emotiva are now rarer and rarer. I also predicted that Emotiva lacked the resources to compete in the AV world, and that they'd quickly go bankrupt competing against the likes of Yamaha, Denon, and Sony. I was wrong. Emotiva has managed to find a niche, and has survived despite their bumpy AV beginnings. Can they continue to thrive? I hope so, but I really don't know; I wish them well. The competition in two-channel products is becoming heated. Brands such as: And others offer exceptional performance at ever more reasonable prices. So whether or not Emotiva chooses to compete, the consumer still wins. It's an excellent time to be an audiophile! Boomzilla

The Minidsp shd does all that and more for a low price. But to avoid significant signal degradation, the user must provide a DIGITAL signal to the MiniDSP. Converting from analog to digital and back to analog is a sure way to make your expensive stereo system sound like a transistor radio. For those of us with digital-only front ends, DSP is fine, but for those with analog sources, DSP is death to sound quality. So the claim that MiniDSP "does all that and more for a low price" comes with a HUGE qualifier that you failed to mention. Boomzilla

Boomzilla Respectfully, I stand by my statement and question your stats….look at the reviews of McIntos’s MEN220, or Lyngdorf, which does exactly these conversions. Again suggest carefully looking at the Minidsp SHD (not other models)

Hi audiobill - I've owned the Lyngdorf. Its room correction features did dazzle me - its transparency, not so much. Was the lack of transparency caused by the additional AD / DA conversions? I don't know, but I suspect so. I've not heard the McIntosh MEN220. I will definitely, however, investigate the MiniDSP SHD. Thanks for the suggestion! Boomzilla Postscriptum - Having looked into the MiniDSP SHD, it is at its best at very high output. This means that one won't really get the performance that you paid for unless you do NOT use the device as a digital preamplifier. So in addition to the cost of the MiniDSP, the user will also have to budget for a high-end preamplifier. The only other option I see would be to insert 10dB inline volume attenuators in the outputs of the MiniDSP. Now the cost of a REALLY good preamplifier isn't what it used to be. Not that long ago, there was a strong positive correlation between the price of a preamplifier and its performance. Any more, absolutely state-of-the-art performance can be had for only a few thousand dollars (I'm thinking of the Audio-gd HE-1 preamp). If you're willing to "settle" for what used to be spectacular performance, the price is even more modest (I'm thinking of the Emotiva PT-1 preamp). If you don't like either (and have not too many sources to switch between), remote-control passive volume pots are available on Amazon for a pittance. All that said, the MiniDSP SHD delivers features out of the ballpark including room correction, built in audio parametric filters, a streamer, a DAC, and the kitchen sink. An amazing product for its price! Thanks audiobill.

A Maserati MC20, hey I'd just like to buy one, no one said anything about Emotiva having to actually make it, or me having to pay for it.. Next door to where I work is a lot and building that use to be the other half of where I work but we sold that half a few years ago. Anyway it is now a place that does marketing for new high end cars. They have new unreleased models, many Maserati's, Aston Martin's, Bentley's etc. normally between 30 - 50 cars
They usually have around 5 or more of these new Maserati MC20's. One week they had 5 in race trim numbered 1 thru 5 that went to a track for testing, one of them was badly crashed there.

Somehow, I just don't see Mrs. Big Dan letting him buy a Maserati. On the other hand, she WAS reckless enough to marry him...
The bottom line is he's lucky enough to have her & better well remember it (applies to most of us, doesn't it?).
