Just to throw this out there. (For those who want TV sound in addition to stereo music but don't really need or want a processor.) Our new two-channel DAC, the XDA-3, which will finally be available in just a few weeks now, has an ARC input where you can connect audio from your TV. (It also has plenty of regular stereo digital audio inputs as well as an analog stereo audio input.) I see too much of this.....a small room....Just over 2000 cubic feet and the goal is some multi-channel system. ME? If I had 2000$ or maybe up to 3000$ for JUST speakers? Buy the best near or full-range type you could find. BY LISTENING TEST. A good stereo amp? And a good stereo preamp? If speakers are $$$ bookshelf types? Maybe a sub crossed at below 80hz.... Depending on other things? Maybe a good DAC or some other way to interface TV sound to the stereo. Leave the TV speakers OFF..... In this case? Less is a lot MORE. I'd be curious about what the OP ended up doing......now a year and a couple weeks past. Personally? I'd avoid 90% of all the HT gear I see out there. My TV room with a good (not over the top, for sure) Stereo, is quite satisfying, even on music oriented programming, singing shows or just listing to music while working around the house.....

Good Plan, Keith. ARC is a usefull feature. Even I use it! I have a 4-in / 1-out optical switch. Out goes to the DAC in my preamp. But the TV is input 3 or 4......and works well without tie delay....

I don't recall if I ever stated it, but auditioning multiple sets of speakers that I'd have to pay return shipping on is not something I'm going to do, which is one reason why I started this thread. I realize that auditioning is still the only way to be able to tell and I'm one to say that my decision is final, but nevertheless I still wanted to hear people's impressions so I could at least narrow a choice down. As I mentioned in my last post, I ended up with the B&W 705 S2s and HTM71 center. I'll also be adding the 700 series surrounds soon. I loved the combo so much, that a few months later I also ended up getting another pair of B&W 705 S2s, an HTM72 center, and 707 S2s for surrounds for my "Home Office HT". I haven't thought about the Airmotiv since.

I understand TOTALLY the shipping issue. Hell, I just ordered some camera memory (CFExpress) from 70 miles away and it has been OVER a week for what was claimed as '3 day shipping'. The shipping company? About 90% One Star reviews....which If I'd known would have been reason enough to spend the gas money on a trip up the road..... I'm writing a NastyGram to the camera store and asking just WHY they use a shipper with such low standards?
SOLUTION?
I'll look at your published profile.....BUT? IF Possible? Go to the nearest real town with some stereo stores. Arrange auditions In Advance. Spend the weekend. Take the wife to a good dinner. Take your time and whatever music you like. TAKE NOTES. Get Spousal Buy In.....
Any Audio clubs in your area? Make friends and go for a visit. I've heard some stuff in peoples homes.....and was suitably impressed in a few cases.....
Shipping stuff all over th planet is not, to ME, the solution to the 'Great Speaker Hunt'.......
I JUST LOOKED at your profile and maybe one of 2 or 3 people on this forum who GET YOUR JOKE....but I won't spoil where you really live. Opinion? Again without mentioning names? You've got a couple Urban Areas within an easy drive from which to choose some good stores. I know of a couple good ones, including some REAL wacky high-end stuff where I'm scared to go.... And yes, the Air Out There can be a little Aromatic at times.......

In visiting around my area, I once heard a 7000$ pair of speakers......driven by a pair of EMO Monobloks....Not the mondo, but stuff people could afford and toss in the car when the 60,000$ worth of amp the speakers came with for the demo......ate sh**.....

Those B&W are a wonderful choice. Glad you enjoy.
Still and all? Even though my system is stable and unchanged for a decade or so.......I'd go to an audio show and spend the day
wandering.
Up in Orange County the 'THE Show' is a great place to just go listen.......
