… but Steven Wilson was there! … And who is he? Should I care? Looks like he also won an award at the show … he writes: “Thank you Visions of Sound for the 3x best immersive mixes awards.
Engineer of the Year 'The Harmony Codex' Porcupine Tree 'Closure/Continuation.Live'”

Steven Wilson is famous for many different things... But what you probably heard about most recently was the various REMIXES he has recently done of some very famous albums... For example Google "Steven Wilson Remixes YES Albums"... Or "Steven Wilson Remixes Jethro Tull"...

My first Wilson ‘remix’ was “Yes — The Steven Wilson Remixes” from HDTracks about 5 years ago, it covers their three best albums, and another good one. Some find his take ‘sterile’, but I’d call it ‘clean’, and somewhat like an actor interpreting a role, some parts come out that you hadn’t noticed much before. I’ve heard a couple of the Tulls, but haven’t listened much, my current favorite Wilson remix, is the 50th anniversary Atmos release of “Who’s Next”. But really my favorite Steven Wilson, is Steven Wilson Solo, and Porcupine Tree, his songs, his voice, his guitar, his keyboards (sometimes), his recording, mixing, production.

As soon as there is something with my RMC-1 (out of warranty now), I would need something new anyway.
And the musicality is no longer a Key Argument for me - but the market is not that Big, if you do not plan to invest more than 8 grand. The RMC-1 is my only Emo product left. And 2 year waiting is a long time - even for Fanboys..
I’m not sure why the warranty is a big factor, this isn’t like cars. Most of my gear is out of warranty and I’m not worried. Well I take that back. Some of the Emotiva products I had were a bit suspect but I think the RMC-1 should be ok long after the warranty expires. May as well wait though. Easier said for me since my unit has gone to the bench . Demotion time lol. I'm going to retire by end of this year - no more monthly income next year - so it's a simple calculation and risk evaluation. What to do, if the Box stops working?
Shall I wait for the 700$ Trade (whenever it comes), shall I change my gear to something new, while I'm still working?
These are my questions I ask myself - and its not very helpful when the release date is postponed from quarter to quarter on and on.
Still some months to go - but better be prepared

Glad to read DLBC will be an optional upgrade with the G4P's. I have a 9."5".6 setup with my RMC-1 so I use a MiniDSP to control the five subs. Looks like I'll use the one sub DLBC option unless Emotiva comes out with a four subwoofer expansion module. Since I use BEQ to augment the low end output of 3 of my subs (which is awesome), I may end up keeping the MiniDSP in the loop even if Emotiva offers the expansion modules. What MiniDSP are you using? I'm looking to do the same but it looks like with 5 subs, the only option is the $1000 Flex HTx if I want to keep all inputs/outputs balanced with XLR cables with one DSP. I really wish Emotiva would come out with an expansion module with 4 subwoofer outputs and provided time alignment for all the subs. Using the one existing sub output, that remains when using a 9.1.6 setup, with the additional 4 outputs that an expansion module would supply would take care of all 5 subs without the need for a separate DSP. Are you actually using the Flex HTx or are you using XLR/RCA adapters with a different DSP like the Flex Eight?

The upgrade is your best bet imho. You may need to wait a little while though.

I don't pop in here much anymore since current firmware has been stable and everything just works but I see this post about upgrades?
Is there something coming for XMC-2 that I should be interested in and if so can someone give me the lowdown plus cost plus availability?

The first few posts in this thread cover much about costs for the new models and trade-up costs, although I would guess that pricing may change at the actual release of the new models. As far as availability, that is an ever-moving target. The last word from Emo is 'end of summer'. They promised a podcast featuring the working 'plus' models a while back, but afaik it hasn't surfaced yet. Emotiva did not have the new models at the Munich show. There is speculation that they will announce at EMO-Fest later this summer. Don't hold your breath, but keep your eye on this thread. When it is finally announced this thread will explode.

What is the date for Emofest? In the 2/2924 podcast Big Dan gave the date as a definite 'TBD later'. Perhaps someone from Emotiva can chime in with a more definite answer. Keith? Dan? Lonnie? Damon? Anyone home??

My RMC is working albeit with some minor issues. My faith in the next gen coming to life is pretty much NIL at this point. My more immediate question is when my RMC has a problem and I’m out of warranty and what viable options I might have

I got anxious and decided to get my RMC running in my media room as everyone reminded me how long it might take for the implementation of the upgrade program even after the release. The PT-7030 hiss was destroying my enjoyment and now I'm up and running 9.1.6 vs 7.1. As a precaution I placed the startup volume at -50 dB. Sure enough on one of my start ups white noise played through all the speakers. This time it wasn't associated with any dirac implementation and the volume was low enough nothing happened. My source was a brand new nvidia shield. When this occurred with my XMC-2 and blew a few tweeters and planar power delivery boards in my great room it also was connected to a nvidia shield but I didn't have the volume limit on startup. I'm curious if there may be a bad mating with the shield for some reason. Hopefully gen 4 can resolve this as it's very concerning. On a positive note at least the RMC has been a beautiful sounding experience minus some pops and the single event. The RMC is up to date on the latest firmware.

My more immediate question is when my RMC has a problem and I’m out of warranty and what viable options I might have My big concern is they will not fix the current issues I'm having with the G4 processors or they will be even more buggy. The Metallic sound issue, Long time to lock in the format (miss a few seconds at the beginning of each show I watch waiting for the lock). The Occasional clicks and pops, occasional distortion and Channel routing issues. None of these should be happening on a processor at this price point. While it sounds amazing when working correctly that doesn't justify these ongoing issues.

Well they are still waiting for some hdmi parts (chips)… for that reason no production yet. Will come.
Interesting: Emo went in an HDMI exhibition and they now claim the HDMI on the + Gen is more stable. Am I right? It would be great!
