geebo is correct, the HDMI file being used confirms this. If the HDMI file is “8.1 20/09/28” then the older 4K board is being used. If the HDMI file is “12.25 22/10/10” then the newer “eARC” 4K board is being used. Not sure of the exact dates, but I’m thinking if you bought your XMC-2/RMC-1L/RMC-1 after January 2022, then most likely your processor came with the hardware changed HDMI board that supports “eARC” which will be supported in an upcoming future firmware. My HDMI firmware is 10.3 21/10/12. Ordered and received mine December 2021. I have not seen this one mentioned anywhere. Anyone know if this is eARC ready? I believe it may be an early eARC version. Support should be able to answer for sure.

My uneducated guess would be you have the new board because old ones have FW 8.x. You may have an early HDMI FW for the newer board. Running FW 3.1 should clear it up.

so can we roll back to 2.5?? Mate you need to read the release notes before even contemplating the upgrade so you understand the sequence etc. From 2nd paragraph in the release notes of FW3.1 : "ONCE FIRMWARE VERSION 3.1 IS INSTALLED ON YOUR PROCESSOR YOU **WILL NOT** BE ABLE TO REINSTALL VERSION 2.xx OR OLDER. IF YOU ATTEMPT TO DO SO YOU WILL RENDER YOUR PROCESSOR INOPERATIVE. (AND IT WILL HAVE TO BE SENT IN TO EMOTIVA TO BE RE-FLASHED)." So I posted this issue earlier, however after troubleshooting it the best I could I figured I'd give further details. I have an RMC1 with the older HDMI board. I performed the firmware update exactly as described. When the unit was finally finished and powered down on the upper left hand corner it would say HDMI 1 (unit is off). When I would power the unit on using the front button it would boot up and I have the loading fonts issue that others have. Unfortunately the processor is having difficulty locking onto an HDMI audio signal and an AES digital audio signal as well.
I currently utilize a lumagen for switching HDMI and scaling. The lumagen has an HDMI audio out that worked flawlessly under the previous firmwares. For all the HDMI inputs that utilize The lumigan sends audio toThe RMC1 via HDMI 1 input. Now, I tried all of the HDMI inputs on the RMC, I tried directly connecting my DirecTV, and multiple oppos to the RMC with no sound. Every so often it would lock on, and then I would switch to another source and it would never lock on again. Oddly a few times if I would just toggle down one input from HDMI 1 to front in the RMC1 was picking up the audio from the HDMI input. Very strange... When switched again I lose audio again and have to mess around to try to pick it up again.
Curious if anybody else is having this issue. Another board member who was using an HD fury device in a very similar fashion was having some challenges as well. Very similar to mine.
Multiple reboots, multiple factory resets, I must have uploaded the new firmware six times already.

Pressed Loudness button tonight, and the Center went silent, and the L+R played that 8 bit noise the surrounds sometimes had on 2.X. Toggled it off, then back on, and it was back to normal.
Does anyone else find the bass very much boosted? I will try to take measurements tomorrow to see if it's just me.

The bass is boosted (in my opinion, dangerously so) if you have Loudness turned on with any multichannel mode. I measured and documented it and reported the issue to Emotiva.

Removing the Lumagen from the audio chain and letting the Emotiva switch might help. Appreciate you might lost per input settings capability on the Lumagen (Unless the Emotiva passes device names via CEC and Lumagen supports that).

I have not updated the firmware as I was gone all week. Will attempt the update this weekend.

I seen something that suggested you set if it’s 1.4 you should also set the rMC-1 to the 1.4 I think the default is 2.0

Last night was the first time taking the RMC-1L on a test drive after 3.1 dropped. The good... The crappy Netflix movie we watched sounded better. The same... pops and clicks remained when surfing through the movie choices. The "bad"... it took a full reboot of both the RMC and the ATV to get the sound to work properly. The Surround was great, but the center channel sounded like a robot.
I also had the experience during the update where the internal backup was erased...and it didn't find it on the USB stick. Pulling and reinserting the USB stick worked and I could do the restoration of the config backup.
Honestly, the update is a bit underwhelming for something that has taken soooo long to produce. But, it's a good start. Please keep them coming.

That noise happens randomly for many people. For me it's always when I'm in a multichannel mode, sometimes playing Dolby 5.1 from Netflix and sometimes playing PCM 5.1 music from my computer. And it usually shows up when I change from one source to another. The missing center channel hasn't happened to me in over a year. Anyway, the fix for the noise or missing channel is to change inputs, change audio modes, or reboot .... one of them will fix it. As for Loudness ... all I can say is use it only for Stereo, never for multichannel or All Stereo. Here's my comparison for both stereo and 5.1 with Loudness off and on with Volume set to -40db. I did this by playing the same section of an orchestra recording for a period of time and capturing the response in REW RTA. I chose this recording because it has pipe organ with notes down to 16Hz!

Updated yesterday. Had the USB recognition bug but backed out of menu and it got recognized on the next try.
The update hung on "Front Panel". Rear switch power cycle brought up the "Reloading Fonts" and FW versions checked out correctly.
In limited use - switching is noticeably better and I haven't heard a click/pop at all.
I got the screechy rear speaker sound once on a Netflix preview (ATV 4k), backing out and restarting fixed it.
All in all, update was good to me.

Firmware v3.1 LGTV C9 = No Audio via ARC or Optical
Version 2.5 ARC was extremely unreliable so I settled on Optical for audio from the TV - while waiting for the new firmware “fix.”
Unfortunately, FW 3.1 now has *NO* audio out from the TV. No ARC and no optical. Prior to the firmware upgrade optical always worked, so I know it’s not a cable or TV issue.
I flashed the XMC2 twice and everything went smoothly, though the “Loading Fonts” bug is definitely annoying. When selecting ARC, the “HDMI ARC” screen display never goes away on the set. The processor will go back to its normal display, but the on screen image “HDMI ARC” remains - with no frickin sound.
So for me, this update is two giant steps backwards and zero forward, as I primarily use the TV’s built in apps for viewing.

Before that I had it too often, but in my case, most of the time a change inputs, change audio modes, or reboot didn't fix it. It was a pain in the *** to say the least. I was desperately waiting for a new fw to fix it. But as I said, it hasn't shown its ugly head in a long time. As long as it stays that way, I have no reason to update to 3.1, especially with some of the reported problems so far.

I think it's fair to say if there's a problem many people have described and Emotiva never says they're working on it and never says they fixed it ... then they aren't working on it and they haven't fixed it. This particular noise is in that category. Also the ticks and pops ... they have suggested using a sync delay, but have never said they were actively working on fixing it. I think we should all have our expectations aligned that a new firmware release will probably not have anything significant in it that has not been listed in the release notes. That noise is weird though. I had it two nights ago when I put multichannel music on playing from the PC after having watched Netflix on AppleTV. For me it has shown up in the center and fronts, but over the past year only in the surrounds. But I have a friend who has a NAD M33 with Dirac, and he has had the noise 2-3 times on his right speaker. Clears with a reboot.

Well, my update is not functioning properly. I run a Roku Ultra thru my XMC-2 which always worked perfectly under FW 2.5. Now, using FW 3.1, every time I select a new video to stream, the XMC-2 loses the lock or sync (whatever you call it) to the audio stream. As soon as the stream changes, the feed goes silent, and I have to reselect my Roku input on the Emo remote. This happens on both Netflix and Disney+ so far, but I expect it's not related to the stream, rather it's something in the HDMI sync, etc.
Kernel version 1.2 18/02/08 HDMI Version 8.1 20/09/28 DSP0,DSP1,USB version 3.1 22/11/14 Firmware version 3.1 22/11/14 FP version 2.11 21/05/11
Needless to say, this is a real pain in the ass.
Is anyone else seeing this happen? Emo guys - how do I fix this?
