If you're using low-power standby and you happen to have an older HDMI board, the "updating fonts" step that now runs every time you start the processor adds 100 seconds to the processor's start up time. All told it now takes about 3 times as long to start as it used to.
If I had known this beforehand, I wouldn't have installed the new firmware until this was fixed. 2.5 minutes of startup time is much, much too long.

So any ATMOS content will not drive the center sub, whether LFE or Mono, if the left sub is on. 5.1 up-mixed WILL run the center sub. This is a new 3.1 problem? Wow!

Having problems with my Nvidia ShieldTV 2019, I did a factory reset today as it had been setup for a couple of years. This of course is time consuming, taking over a hour or so. Mainly getting logged back in on many of the apps.
Anyway, nothing has changed, Vudu app is still real flaky due to it's use of DD+ for audio and XMC-2 is not locking in on this audio format very well.
CEC definitely not working in this 3.1 firmware; in the previous firmware version, selecting the Shield as an input would power on and off the unit. In this firmware power functions of CEC don't seems to work at all.
Oppo UDP-203 is having audio problems as well. Sometime it works right but many times not.
The odd part is both units were working just fine on the previous firmware version. Both struggle with selecting correct audio format.

At least this is my experience... do you have the ability to test this and confirm? UPDATE - see new post emotivalounge.proboards.com/post/1103127/thread

Oh man, I think I will hold off on this update. My XMC-2 on 2.5 is somewhat stable now and I think I don’t want to chance it getting anymore screwed up than it already is. Emotiva needs some real help with this.

Well I finally sent in my old receiver that was laying around for the RMC-1. Can I safely assume that when I receive it will already be FW 3.1? Seeing some one with no ARC on their LG C9 is kind of concerning, but the dice have been rolled. Given the time it took to get this firmware out makes me hope that the next one will be a lot sooner. I am really hopeful I will have almost no issues getting things set up and running, from what I have been reading here that is 50/50 at BEST... I am a once and done sort of guy. I can only hope for a few things. 1. For my needs, everything works after taking the time to set things up. 2. Should I have issues they are minor in nature 3. Should the issues be minor hopefully these issues will be fixed with an 3.XX version of firmware shortly since it took so long to get 3.XX out...
Here's hoping, or as some where would say I live in a dream land..

.................... WRT to the SW channel missing sound issue I used internal tones, and external test tones to test the RMC-1 with no luck: - I tried changing speaker preset from 1 (with dirac) to 2 (without) then back = no change - tried rebooting = no change - I changed SW from "mono" to "none" then back again = no change - Tried different formats = no change - Then the kids wanted to watch 4k Edge of Tomorrow and accidentally put the 1080p bluray into the oppo 203 and hit play.....for those that know this movie the opening sequence of the 1080p DTS track has awesome sub sonics. Part way through this sequence the subs came to life. I have no idea what triggered them to come on, but simply sat down and enjoyed the movie. I will test some more tomorrow and see if the SW channel goes away again. So interesting items re the subwoofers. I fired up the system again last night and a couple of notes........ - After booting up, I played the dolby test tone clip which restarted playback of the subwoofer test tone....the interesting thing was it took a while for the subwoofers to activate. Its like Im using the auto switch on the the subwoofer ie it activates the SW once it sees a signal, but Im not they are always active. - Watching the last episode of star trek brave new worlds (on Paramount+) I had to go do something else so asked one of the kids to stop playback (Nvidia Shield 2019). The kids told me that once they exited the show.....some preview started on whatever was highlighted on the menu screen. The audio was coming only from the subwoofer eg muffled speech, music etc. The audio continued from the SW even with mute on. No other speakers played any audio (mute on or off). They had to reboot the RMC-1 to correct the issue. - Never had any of this on any of the prior FW versions and will keep an eye on it. I think the clicks and pops et al might be less but still there. Need to analyse more but I don't think there are clicks/pops between format changes 2.0 and 5.1.....maybe only to and from 7.1? *edit* spoke to kids when they got up and they had a couple of other things to add to the 2nd bullet point.

The random noise has not showed up in about 5months (fingers crossed) for me on 2.5fw. Before that I had it too often, but in my case, most of the time a change inputs, change audio modes, or reboot didn't fix it. It was a pain in the *** to say the least. I was desperately waiting for a new fw to fix it. But as I said, it hasn't shown its ugly head in a long time. As long as it stays that way, I have no reason to update to 3.1, especially with some of the reported problems so far. I think it's fair to say if there's a problem many people have described and Emotiva never says they're working on it and never says they fixed it ... then they aren't working on it and they haven't fixed it. This particular noise is in that category. Also the ticks and pops ... they have suggested using a sync delay, but have never said they were actively working on fixing it. I think we should all have our expectations aligned that a new firmware release will probably not have anything significant in it that has not been listed in the release notes. That noise is weird though. I had it two nights ago when I put multichannel music on playing from the PC after having watched Netflix on AppleTV. For me it has shown up in the center and fronts, but over the past year only in the surrounds. But I have a friend who has a NAD M33 with Dirac, and he has had the noise 2-3 times on his right speaker. Clears with a reboot. Been doing this for awhile now and that weird noise in my speakers has got to be the strangest problem I have ever encountered (most random too). For me, if I don't get that noise anymore, I'm not risking to install another firmware, just in case it comes back!

Emotiva needs some real help with this. The software in Emotiva's preamps are so weird. When I was on 2.5(and older) it was running like ****. All kind of problems. All of a sudden 2.5 is problem free for the most part. If it's running as it is now, I can live with it forever. With fw 3.1 a new thread was created to put all the old pain in the past. From the looks of it, a new thread will be created for fw 4.0.

Emotiva needs some real help with this. I updated mine this afternoon but had the same thoughts you are having. My unit was working well for the last couple of months. One thing that helped was unplugging everything from it and powering it down. Let it sit for a couple of hours then powered it back up. Was working great after I did that. Doing that now after the firmware update and will report back later how it goes.

One thing everyone should remember, this is for the most part a user supported board, meaning Emotiva may or may not respond to individual problems or complaints. Most of the time it’s another user who may try to help. If you really want to get their help with a specific problem (you will do best solving one problem at a time), open a support ticket. Here’s one way to do it, you can also call: Emotiva Support Page

This board was opened up by KeithL - This thread was opened by Keith, and while I agree it’s good to list your problems here for discussion, don’t automatically assume that someone from Emotiva will try to help you solve the problem. To get help solving a problem from Emotiva, open a ticket! We are discussing common problems with the new FW in this thread. It will be more efficient and time saving if Emotiva pays attention to this thread! I'll bet they are currently paying attention. I do hope they are getting rest this weekend too. This is currently a great place to sort out some differences between common and individual problems, and gives Emotiva space to work on issues with FW3.1, without them having to individually hold everyone's hand. I like to see what issues other people have. I can test my system. Sometimes we can help. Sometimes the issue is misunderstanding. Sometimes I have a similar misunderstanding. However, thanks for the support page link for individual issues. There will be some. I'd like to see a FAQ page for issues. That would also save time.

Firmware v3.1 LGTV C9 = No Audio via ARC or Optical Version 2.5 ARC was extremely unreliable so I settled on Optical for audio from the TV - while waiting for the new firmware “fix.” Unfortunately, FW 3.1 now has *NO* audio out from the TV. No ARC and no optical. Prior to the firmware upgrade optical always worked, so I know it’s not a cable or TV issue. I flashed the XMC2 twice and everything went smoothly, though the “Loading Fonts” bug is definitely annoying. When selecting ARC, the “HDMI ARC” screen display never goes away on the set. The processor will go back to its normal display, but the on screen image “HDMI ARC” remains - with no frickin sound. So for me, this update is two giant steps backwards and zero forward, as I primarily use the TV’s built in apps for viewing. ProgressMy initial setup had the XMC2 acting as the switching device. Two HDMI sources (DirecTV & HTPC) into HDMI 1 & 2, and single HDMI from XMC2 (HDMI OUT2) to LGTV HDMI 2/ARC. That setup is a complete failure. Instead, I’m now feeding HDMII sources directly to TV and switching sources on TV. With this configuration both HDMI ARC & Optical out from LGTV are recognized and play properly. It appears setting HDMI ARC & Optical as “Passthrough” is more reliable than “Auto” - formats are properly recognized and displayed correctly on XMC2. Progress.

My adventures: RMC1L
Process: - backed up settings - factory reset - hard power off\on - updated firmware
Results: - Font loading issue as others have stated on every boot. How the hell did this make it through beta testing? - ARC from my LG C7 just plain stopped working, no audio at all. Switched to optical out from tv to optical in to get any sound. When HDMI ARC is selected as the input, it shows PCM 0.0.
Everything else seemingly ok, menus are snappier as is moving between inputs.
