So any ATMOS content will not drive the center sub, whether LFE or Mono, if the left sub is on. 5.1 up-mixed WILL run the center sub. Just selected Ready Player One on my ATV4k and getting Atmos with my center sub working fine. I have it set to LFE only.

Results: - Font loading issue as others have stated on every boot. How the hell did this make it through beta testing? .............. I have to totally agree with you.......leads me to believe that no-one is on the beta program with the older RMC-1 processors that have the 8.1 20/09/28 HDMI boards......big miss!! This sort of miss in the base population of device in beta might be why there is a mixed outcome on this thread. More learnings I guess. I have asked on many occasions how does one get on the beta program and have never had a response. Happy to help and have never had a problem being an early adopter.

This thread was opened by Keith, and while I agree it’s good to list your problems here for discussion, don’t automatically assume that someone from Emotiva will try to help you solve the problem. To get help solving a problem from Emotiva, open a ticket! We are discussing common problems with the new FW in this thread. It will be more efficient and time saving if Emotiva pays attention to this thread! I'll bet they are currently paying attention. I do hope they are getting rest this weekend too. This is currently a great place to sort out some differences between common and individual problems, and gives Emotiva space to work on issues with FW3.1, without them having to individually hold everyone's hand. I like to see what issues other people have. I can test my system. Sometimes we can help. Sometimes the issue is misunderstanding. Sometimes I have a similar misunderstanding. However, thanks for the support page link for individual issues. There will be some. I'd like to see a FAQ page for issues. That would also save time. I agree. It would be prudent of Emotiva to be skimming this thread....especially in the early days of the firmware release. In any case Im writing my experiences here so that we can help each other as a community. Once Im certain something is repeatable I will also raise it officially on the Emo support site.

Thank you. You just told me that you beta testers knew about this Update Fonts problem. From the FW 3.1 thread update notes - "13) POWER THE PROCESSOR ON FROM STANDBY MODE. - at this point, because we did a Factory Reset, the processor is configured for "lowest power" Standby mode (we recommend setting the configuration back to "video remains on" Standby mode at this point"emotivalounge.proboards.com/thread/60291/current-version-rmc-xmc-firmwareIt means KeithL and EMO knew it too. My FW install did NOT configure to "lowest power". It configured to VRO with HDMI 1 A = HDMI 1 lit on the display. I had to manually set the configuration to lowest power standby. I have the series 8 HDMI board with the update fonts problem, and now, missing center height channels in .6 configuration after the FW3.1 update. Finally, it also means I know more about EMO and the beta testers. Shame on all of you.

the installation notes say NO. It's a 1-way update. Once more with feeling ... DO NOT ROLL BACK TO 2.5 ... it will brick the processor and you'll have to ship it back to Emotiva. Tell your friends I'm of the opinion that it's going back no matter what. I posted earlier my issues with the new firmware

I think Keith just had it backwards. The line " - at this point, because we did a Factory Reset, the processor is configured for "lowest power" Standby mode" is not and has not ever been the case that I can recall. If they wanted us to set it to VRO then they would have had to say nothing about changing that setting because that's what it's set to with a factory reset. Always has been.

They knew; it was reported to them before the rollout. I assume they haven't been able to figure it out, so they pushed it out instead of holding things up until they figure it out.

Oh well...No sound from my BluRay player. I use the Second HDMI port as Audio Out to the RMC-1L. No sound, no signal detected by the RMC-1L. Luckily I could switch the input to the Audio Out from the Vrroom switch and it worked. I tried rebooting both devices and nothing (plus I had to sit through the Fonts Updating message, twice).... This sucks.
Update - Sound from the BluRay player is 95% NO. I was able to get it by switching inputs over and over. The weird thing is that the Audio Out from the Vrroom is also impacted. My ATV works 100% of the time. I can see on my Vrroom that I'm outputing an audio signal (via the Audio Out port), But...the RMC doesn't see an audio signal via the Vrroom, or the direct Audio only link from the player.
In my case, whatever changed was NOT a change for the better. Why, Why, Why, didn't I follow my gut and hold off updating :-(
My family now has me on their top 10 Enemies of the State list!

Well I finally sent in my old receiver that was laying around for the RMC-1. Can I safely assume that when I receive it will already be FW 3.1? Seeing some one with no ARC on their LG C9 is kind of concerning, but the dice have been rolled. Given the time it took to get this firmware out makes me hope that the next one will be a lot sooner. I am really hopeful I will have almost no issues getting things set up and running, from what I have been reading here that is 50/50 at BEST... I am a once and done sort of guy. I can only hope for a few things. 1. For my needs, everything works after taking the time to set things up. 2. Should I have issues they are minor in nature 3. Should the issues be minor hopefully these issues will be fixed with an 3.XX version of firmware shortly since it took so long to get 3.XX out... Here's hoping, or as some where would say I live in a dream land.. It will have FW 3.1. While it's great to do research ahead of time don't get hung up on what you see on the forum. Honestly, Ignore most of the stuff in this thread and older archived versions of this thread unless you find yourself with an actual issue once you have the system up and running. I would say by and large this thread doesn't represent the larger population of owners. That doesn’t mean people haven’t hit issues in their setup but the forum often is the place people go when something is wrong over when it’s all just humming away. I've had an RMC-1 since its been available. I've had one major issue where my unit was replaced in less than a week due to a hardware fault and one or two other minor issues along the way in the last 5 years. I've converted a few neighbors and friends to Emotiva gear. Their biggest complaints on the RMC series are almost all around the performance of the UI or pops when changing sources (I've never had that problem on any firmware release.) Beyond a mystery backup problem that went away with a new usb stick after the 3.1 update everything appears to be working fine for me. I have the older HDMI board and I am using it with an Apple Tv 4k (Gen2), a Google Tv (Over Arc) ((Ack I hate Arc and CEC in general, maybe when vendors can agree on a standard implementation it won't be a trash pile.)), a Shield, a UHD 4k Blu-ray player. No problems with my center channel, heights, top middles, or subs. No problems with my Blu-ray player but I send audio only down a second HDMI link to the RMC for that. As far as the "Updating Fonts" bit, I don't particularly care much. There was a time when it was seemingly better to use lowest power mode. I guess time will tell if VRO is in better shape after the changes made to the HDMI switching and control code.

Hello, First time posting here, I wanted to share my experiences with the updated firmware and ask for help/advice.
My XMC2 has been buggy since the beginning (purchased the XMC2 in August of this year) but was able to have a mostly stable experience after reading through the forums. Now onto the new firmware update.
When I first did the firmware update to 3.1 the processor only took about eight minutes turned off and never turned back on. I Waited the allotted amount of time turned the processor off on the back switch, waited then turned the processor back on and the update did not fully take did a factory reset. loaded the firmware again this time and it basically finished the firmware update including the updating fonts but right after the updating fonts it got stuck on an error message (err: Init EDA2) it remained frozen on the error message I waited about an hour and then switched off on the back panel waited then switch back on. I did the firmware update one more time and this time everything went smoothly and the processor seem to work fine. I did not have the fonts issue because I’m on the newer HDMI board with e-arc capabilities.
Now a few days into the new firmware(watched three movies in the previous days with no issues). I went to play a movie tonight and no sound. no sound through any of my inputs (hdmi for input 1, 2 & 3 coaxial digital for input 4) input 1 Oppo UDP 203 Input 2 Oppo BDP105D Input 3 Roku Ultra 4K Input 4 ifi Audio Zen Stream
Went through several power cycles, checking cables, power cycle on rear panel power switch and three factory resets later. still results with no audio. Further troubleshooting I tried just my Zen stream with coaxial digital input and had no audio on that either, did this to rule out issues with HDMI and my Oppo players. At this point I’m not sure what’s going on. One last thing I did to try to make sure my amps are still function correctly, I went into the test tones for levels and all of those worked. went back to input HDMI 1 and surprisingly I had audio. I switched to input HDMI 2 and no audio, I went back to the test tones, the test tones worked went back out to HDMI 2 and had audio. Switched to input 4 for for my Zen stream via coaxial digital and had audio. Thinking everything might be back to normal I powered the unit off as it was too late to watch a movie at this point. My wife and I watched some TV programs. Curious if the issue would arise again I powered back on the XMC2 and same issue, no audio from any input. Went back in to the levels menu and this time there was no audio out of the test tones, got out of the menu system and power cycled the unit from the rear output. After power cycle still no audio went back into the levels menu and this time the test tones worked again. Exited out of the menu and that would fix a single input. Power cycled unit, turned back on, no audio again however this time audio worked via the coaxial digital from the Zen stream. Did one more factory reset left the unit for a bit after a power cycle on the rear. Turned the unit back on and the same issue, no audio. Audio only seems to work after going into the menu system and launching the test tones with it occasionally working via the coaxial digital input via the Zen stream. No idea what is causing this or what made it go from working for a few days, then to this point with it not working any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thinking I might have to send the unit in to have them look at it.
Final note on some oddities that occurred during this process. When the unit was turned off I would still see HDMI 1 lit up on the XMC2 Even though the unit was powered off(I use low power mode). Second oddity I noticed was about half of the time, The front panel display showed PCM 0.0. Third oddity was it would not display or was actually left blank, the top middle section of the on screen display that would show for instance Dolby Atmos that would either remain blank or after several minutes would pop up with Dolby surround for instance.
Thank you for the assistance!
Jeremy

In addition to the font update problem which in my case continues even if I set the VRO option, I had other problems last night. I couldn't turn off the processor from the remote control, or rather the processor was off (orange light on the front) but the screens remained partially lit with incomprehensible writing. Turned the processor back on I tried to enter the menu but I couldn't do anything because it moved randomly, clicking on the arrows the menu options overlapped or jumped or were unreadable. For now it seems solved with a restart from the rear button but I don't like this very much. I hope that Emotiva will soon release a new firmware that will put an end to all these problems never encountered with version 2.5
