Firmware v3.1 LGTV C9 = No Audio via ARC or Optical Version 2.5 ARC was extremely unreliable so I settled on Optical for audio from the TV - while waiting for the new firmware “fix.” Unfortunately, FW 3.1 now has *NO* audio out from the TV. No ARC and no optical. Prior to the firmware upgrade optical always worked, so I know it’s not a cable or TV issue. I flashed the XMC2 twice and everything went smoothly, though the “Loading Fonts” bug is definitely annoying. When selecting ARC, the “HDMI ARC” screen display never goes away on the set. The processor will go back to its normal display, but the on screen image “HDMI ARC” remains - with no frickin sound. So for me, this update is two giant steps backwards and zero forward, as I primarily use the TV’s built in apps for viewing. ProgressMy initial setup had the XMC2 acting as the switching device. Two HDMI sources (DirecTV & HTPC) into HDMI 1 & 2, and single HDMI from XMC2 (HDMI OUT2) to LGTV HDMI 2/ARC. That setup is a complete failure. Instead, I’m now feeding HDMII sources directly to TV and switching sources on TV. With this configuration both HDMI ARC & Optical out from LGTV are recognized and play properly. It appears setting HDMI ARC & Optical as “Passthrough” is more reliable than “Auto” - formats are properly recognized and displayed correctly on XMC2. Progress. SAGA CONTINUES OK, this update is officially crap. While I now have sound, any attempt to get the XMC-2 on the network results in a locked unit that can only be brought back to life with a hard reset. DHCP assigns unknown settings and any attempt to manually configure an IP address ends up with a frozen brick. I bought this thing for 2 simple uses - sound from an LGTV via ARC, and patio music from zone 2 controlled by a network capable remote. ARC is still wonky & network configuration trashes the unit. Maddening.

Oh well...No sound from my BluRay player. I use the Second HDMI port as Audio Out to the RMC-1L. No sound, no signal detected by the RMC-1L. Luckily I could switch the input to the Audio Out from the Vrroom switch and it worked. I tried rebooting both devices and nothing (plus I had to sit through the Fonts Updating message, twice).... This sucks. I figured by switching speaker preset to 2 then switch back to 1, the audio detection is back else is just stuck as PCM 0.0. I tried that...over and over. Nothing would bring me sound :-( On 2.5 this was NEVER an issue. Even switching to the Other port connected to the Vrroom was odd. It took the RMC a long time to recognize there was a signal. FYI - Sound through the TV or Soundbar was fine and they locked onto the signal instantly.

Button 1 set to HDMI ARC, but depending on how the stars align picks something else. OK, I’ll just cycle through the input select and guess what - another frozen brick. Gotta power cycle the unit and wait another three minutes for the font reload bliss. The unit has already been back to EMO once (as has been the prior UMC1 and XMC1) When will I learn to let y’all work out the bugs before I update the firmware!!

Hi Guys
I've done also upgrade firmware from v2.5 to v3.1 and now I feel little confused. I did everything according to the manual, but there is an error during the installation like "err:init EDA2". I dont know whats mean, but that kind of message I've got during instalation. After installation v3.1 every starting the processor takes roughly 3 minutes due to "rebuilding fonts". I know that I can using option video remains on, but during this way power consumption XMC2 in Stanby is on level 39,2W whilst during Power ON 39,7W. It means annualy power consumptionon level 348 Mega Watt (about $80 in Poland) when processor is power off (Standby in option video remains on). When we change setup for Low Power, power consumption is on level 0,4W (annualy cost in Stanby is about $1 instead $80) After installation I hear still some cracking noises during changing tracks on TV in eARC HDMI mode, so it means that I have to still using Optical source on TV and XMC2 for right sound without cracking.

The err init EDA2 often has happened for me with the XMC-2 since the beginning. Sometimes it clears with a reboot, sometimes not. The extreme fix is to switch off power, pull the AC line cord, pull all the HDMI cables. Wait a few minutes and plug in the AC and switch it on. It should boot okay. Then reconnect HDMI cables. eARC is not implemented in this release.

I don't use VRO for a couple of reasons and the power draw is one of them. But it's important to understand that the processor can still pass audio and video and also allow input changes. That takes a power supply and some circuitry to accomplish and is the reason for the power draw in VRO. It's unavoidable in order to have the VRO feature that a lot of people use. It just isn't close to being possible while using 100mW. I fully realize that VRO needs power. I just find VRO superfluous, as it only saves 8% over full operation. My reasons for not using VRO are also as follows: 1. i use my TV only as a monitor (not as a TV receiver, so even without ARC) and only with Emotiva processor and cable receiver/set top box. 2. the Emotiva processor switches off and also on the whole AV system (13 devices) including active speakers in LPS mode via a master-slave power strip. 3. there is probably no master-slave power strip that can distinguish between 36 and 39 W with certainty at VRO. AudioHTIT : I saw auc after my reply that the post FW 3.x Owners Thread would be the better place. How do you switch to this one? Like this! To move a conversation to a different thread, quote the message in the other thread, select all, then cut and paste it in the new thread, like I did here. We can now continue this discussion in the right place. I will also respond to your VRO thoughts, I agree the power difference between VRO and ON is insignificant, and I don’t use it either. However, many people like it for the fast turn on, and some do like to watch TV without powering their amps on. VRO is needed so that those people can still turn their systems on and off — and activate the triggers to turn their amps on and off (as you do). The solution is to fix the font loading bug (and do everything else to make LPS start as quickly as possible), not get rid of VRO.

I think I’m on the network! But, now this - remote buttons carefully entered for my 5 uses, but they randomly change positions. Button 1 set to HDMI ARC, but depending on how the stars align picks something else. OK, I’ll just cycle through the input select and guess what - another frozen brick. Gotta power cycle the unit and wait another three minutes for the font reload bliss. Two thoughts, first the NIC in the G3P has been finicky from the start (one user has something unique and it has never worked), I don’t believe there was anything in 3.1 that changed that for better or worse. Except, when I used to have trouble with the NIC it happened when the processor was doing something ‘difficult’, like playing a UHD disk with Atmos, it seems when the CPU gets ‘busy’ it may not service the NIC fast enough. So as the code gets more, or less, efficient, this problem might get better or worse — that’s just my experience. Second, ‘scrolling’ through the inputs is always a crap shoot, most should try to avoid it by either: assigning a ‘Button’ (1-7) to your specific inputs and select them with the Buttons. Or get a universal remote like Harmony and use ‘Activities’ to make your selections. Edit: If your network is working, you can also use the Emotiva Remote App to make direct input selections.

One more to add, ARC not working on Vizio PX75-G1.
Vizio does not see Emotiva XMC-2 set to HDMI 1, ARC as input and with Vizio's "Device Discovery" it displays "No CEC devices are connected"

I’d love to “assign a button” - I did, 5 of them. And eventually they go wherever they want. I’m on my 4th FW reload - it’s been a disaster.
Just when I think I’ve got everything working, audio from LGTV ARC and/or optical working - something else rears it’s ugly head.
No network access, try to fix = brick.
Reboot, ARC and Optical no sound. Coax from DirecTV, no sound. Try to fix = brick. Reboot, maybe ARC, maybe Optical, no network. Try to fix = brick.
Finally, re-flash, reboot, start over = same as 1st attempt.
Last attempt = reboot, reflash - toss in pool. At least the madness has ended.

When you cold boot the processor, the tv has been unplugged for a few minutes also, correct? Unplugging the power from the tv is critical to get ARC operational in a consistent manner. My Sony needs a minimum of 5 minutes to clear the short term memory, otherwise, if I'm rebooting the tv to get ARC to work and use less time, ARC will fail consistently. The tv is the gatekeeper for ARC.

It’s going back to EMO once the weather warms up and I fetch it from the bottom of my pool.

The update went well for me.
I updated my RMC-1L yesterday everything went fine. I did need to restart it after step 5 completed before continuing to step 6 which wasn't mentioned and startled me at first as at first I thought it wasn't responding until I realized it had shut off, it was displaying HDMI 1 on the right side left side blank at that time.
I have only seen the updating fonts the one time while the update was taking place, although I do normally use Video Remains On I tried both turning off Video Remains ON and even turning Off/On my RMC-1L from the back panel and I still have not had a repeat of updating fonts. I have had my RMC-1L for almost a year as I received last December 7th 2021.

FW3.1 For those with "remnants" being displayed on the front panel display while in a standby mode, I've been getting those since FW2.5. I use VRO, so in effect, it's sort of a "feature" to display what the currently chosen Input happens to be at the moment. But it's not consistent in when it shows or what is being shown. Frankly, I'd like it to keep showing the chosen input, but it's not bothersome for me either way.
My system is not complete at the moment so I'm not able to check all channels yet with the new firmware, but so far, the Front L&R are connected (new amp) and general operation is good. I hope to have the Surrounds and Tops reconnected to a repaired amp by later tonight. Then all I need is a new Center speaker amp (HC-1 most likely). (All my amps took a hit from the utility a few weeks ago, with various states of damage.)

There is a lot of inconsistent behavior with the RMC. Perhaps the positive spin is to consider all the inconsistent behavior as 'features'. Market it - More Bugs, Less Meat. It's A Feature!

My ATV works 100% of the time. I can see on my Vrroom that I'm outputing an audio signal (via the Audio Out port), But...the RMC doesn't see an audio signal via the Vrroom, or the direct Audio only link from the player. In my case, whatever changed was NOT a change for the better. Why, Why, Why, didn't I follow my gut and hold off updating :-( My family now has me on their top 10 Enemies of the State list! Yes I am having the exact same issue with my VRROOM and my XMC2. I contacted Emotiva and they tried to blame the VRROOM which worked fine on 2.5 and still works fine on other devices. There is another user with a Lumagen getting the same issues. Supposedly Keith will get back to me and he is reporting it to Lonnie. IF they had called this a beta AND not immediately blamed the customer when issues are reported I wouldnt be upset. I spent 10 hrs working on this to have Keith slap me on the hand for his assumption when in the reality I had done as he asked and so much more without being prompted. The truth is the users know more about what isnt working than the manufacturer, scary. I'm still a Emo fan and plan on doing the upgrade but the taste in the mouth aint great RN.

If your RMC-1L has “12.25 22/10/10” for the HDMI Version, then I’m betting you are one of the first to get the hardware changed, latest 4K HDMI board with “eARC”. Thus this was about the time KeithL mentioned the change of hardware due to pandemic/supply issues for certain parts.

I cannot blame the Vrroom here. My two Tivos and my ATV working fine (leveraging the Audio Out of the Vrroom). The issue also raises it's ugly head with the direct connect between the BluRay player and the RMC-1L. Last night I could get the Vrroom connection to finally work so we could watch the movie. The Direct Connect is a lost cause. This morning, I could not get either connection to work. This is absolutely a 3.1 issue, it worked perfectly fine for the past year. Nothing else changed. Update - Messed around with it again and no dice (I tried changing settings in the BluRay player to see if it made any difference)... My RMC-1L now hates my Sony BluRay Player. I can see the Video format switching on the front of the RMC, this tells me that it cannot get a good sync. I'm beyond pissed off at the moment, we have a gang of people coming on Thursday and the the system is broken. FYI - Also tried one of my Tivo's and as before, I got a green screen when it "synced" or the blank grey screen.

I did of course say HDMI 1, my mistake. Thanks
