This thread is specifically for education in the usage of REW with our processors, and only a little incidental Dirac discussion since thereβs already a thread dedicated to Dirac. We will have scheduled Zoom conferences to cover various topics beginning with just the ultra basics. We can all then discuss our various findings with the focus being: Everyone here is here to help. Off topic posts will be eliminated. Marc, marcl , is being very gracious in sharing his Zoom account with us for this endeavor. All of us participants owe him our thanks for making this possible! When a Zoom is scheduled, please send marcl a PM with your name and email address so an invite can be sent to you with the Zoom link attached. Please install the Zoom app in advance and look over the instructions for how to connect and settings for Audio and Video for your device. When possible, the Zoom call will be recorded for possible posting so others may benefit from the conference.

REW Settings Examples Apple MacThis first graphic shows what a new install of REW looks like on a Mac with its defaults on the left side of the page, and what I changed on the right side with yellow arrows pointing to the changed settings. Sound CardIn this tab you can set the Input and Output devices. I set mine to HDMI Input from the G3P, and REW had already chosen the connected mic as the Input Device, but we can choose whatever Input Device we want from the dropdown list - should other devices be available. A microphone needs to be connected for the pertinent info to appear automatically. If using the Emotiva EM-1 mic, this would have populated this device entry. Cal FilesThis is where one would select the calibration file needed for each microphone model. You will need to navigate to the location where the microphone's calibration file is located. The microphone should be aimed up at the ceiling and the cal file chosen will be the 90 degree version. In this case it's a UMIK-1 mic with a sensitivity of -18dB, which is what REW "sensed" and reported, I did not set the sensitivity in REW. Some UMIK-1 mics are set from the factory as -12dB sensitivity, and later models at -18dB. Both are usable for REW and Dirac, but the -18dB sens is easier to use with Dirac at lower volume levels. ViewIn this section you can adjust the View parameters. The items I've changed are things like, to force certain REW Tools to persistently "stay on top" so they don't disappear, and more importantly to me, to "Save trace color with measurement", otherwise the color for the traces will change to an unchosen default color when the file is opened in the future. I picked out some colors to represent each channel so I know just by the color which channel it is.

Would love to understand how to use REW along with MiniDSP for sub alignment. The hookups needed to the RMC (if any). Been watching all the YouTube videos but, one specific to the miniDSP/RMC/REW from soup to nuts would be awesome

That is 2 AM GMT, I don't think you will get much interest from European crowd. Can you record Zoom session so it can be viewed later by those who wish to do so? Or even better move the time to something like 6PM to give Europeans a chance to join?
Cheers

Gotta get through the first one to see how it goes. And yes, hoping to record and post these.

Video from REW ZOOM 221219 Thanks for posting ttocs ! So this was a very enjoyable conversation among 7 of us who have crossed paths on the Forum and elsewhere. It was very informal with discussion of basic setup and interpretation of results. A great opportunity to answer some questions in real time. Special thanks to webmst007 joining from Australia, and giving us an overview of the Multi-Sub Optimizer application, and following up with some Atmos test tone files that should prove really useful. We'll definitely do this again sometime soon, and will probably include some discussion of using Dirac and correlating to REW measurements. Please comment on this thread with any specific topics and questions. We'll do some research and include them in the next session.

A poll has been added to find out what time zones might be involved in the next REW ZOOM Conference. The next ZOOM Conference will be in early February, probably on a Saturday. If there is a large spread of time zones wanting to be involved, which would be pretty cool!, then some of us will be getting up early, while others of us will be staying up late. But it'll be interesting to find out and try to accomodate.
Once a date and time has been decided upon, the poll will be removed. After the conference another poll put in place for the following REW Conference.
EST = GMT-5
