I think Erin is a credible reviewer. Eric Alexander of Tekton was offended. Watch and draw your own conclusions. I think Erin has come to the right conclusion - "No more Tekton reviews from me". Tekton and Eric Alexander is not worth the aggravation. Eric Alexander is strung a bit too tight. He has done more damage to his own company than anyone else could do. Talk about self immolation. www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQIegbyEHPU

I watched Youthman and the gang talking on the YouTube post about this. I've always been intrigued by the Tekton speakers, but this reaction from Eric definitely rubbed me the wrong way

Sad and very unfortunate... bunch of drama could have been avoided.

Add Tekton to Bud Light on the list of products I'll never, never, ever buy.

Mr. Eric Alexander may not be the saaviest of businessmen, but he makes some fun speakers. Business success depends on selling what you do WELL and partnering out the rest. Eric?

"Fun" speakers? Is that a nice way of saying not accurate? And your definition of “accurate” is? The most truly accurate speakers I’ve heard were designed by one of the greatest speaker designers of all time - Mr. Jim Theil (sp?). Mr Paul Klipsch’s products had lower distortion, but Jim’s sounded much flatter.

Like overly bright or forward? Copious amounts of bass? Both?

Well if you can't say what needs to be said because a company won't like it. What's the point. Where is the non biased opinion anyone is free to share. No I agree with other posts here. This is very disturbing. I don't care how the speakers are. The character of the company on how this is handled speaks for itself.

Responding with a question about geebo's definition of accuracy, and stating that Thiels are accurate doesn't answer your statement about Tektons being 'fun'. What makes Tektons fun? Please.

But what makes a speaker "fun". Is it something about the sound that distinguishes them from un-fun speakers. Like overly bright or forward? Copious amounts of bass? Both? Well, I'd think that the definition of a "fun" speaker would vary by the individual defining it. For me, the things that make a speaker fun (in order of priority) are: 1. lifelike dynamics - All speakers have less than fully lifelike dynamics, at least all that I've heard, but some are more dynamic than others. Fully-horn-loaded speakers like the Klipsch La Scala and Klipschorn qualify, as do some of the newer RP series speakers from Klipsch. The Tekton line is also pretty close. Note that ALL these examples have higher than average sensitivity... Some speakers, on the other hand, have virtually no dynamics until a threshold volume is reached (I consider Magnepan speakers to be in this group). And some speakers still sound somewhat dynamically restrained regardless of volume (KEF LS50, for example). 2. clarity - This is related to dynamics, but it isn't quite the same. To my ears, a "clear" speaker has the ability to put vocalists and instruments "in the room with you." Some reviewers refer to this as "presence." Some speakers have it, others don't. 3. bass extension - This isn't an absolute requirement for a fun speaker, but it helps. I'm currently running some Klipsch RP-600m speakers, that really need a subwoofer to reach below about 40 Hz. but I still consider them a very "fun" speaker. Most of the Tekton models HAVE numbers one and two above but unlike my little Klipsch bookshelf speakers, also offer good bass (and without a subwoofer). So that is my definition of a "fun" speaker. Others have their own definitions. Boomzilla

When you say the Thiel were accurate does that mean accurate dynamics, clarity and bass extension or were they lacking in those areas? Do the Tektons, Klipsh et al have accurate dynamics, clarity and bass extension or are they less than accurate in those areas? To me, a "fun" speaker is a speaker that impresses right away with a bit of an "in your face" character (strong mid bass and lots of treble) but one that you quickly grow fatigued with while listening. I'm not a fan of what I consider to be "fun" speakers.

The Thiel speakers CAN be fun speakers (as were my Dahlquist DQ-10s back in the day), but to get them to sit up and sing, you MUST have an amplifier that can produce a LOT of current into a WIDELY varying load. The other speakers I listed, due to their high sensitivity, are fun with a wide variety of amps.

Being an owner of Thiel speakers which I love, Boom is absolutely correct that a good amplifier is required for the speakers. The Thiel CS1.6 and the SCS4 that I own sing beautifully with the Emotiva XPA-5 3rd Gen. Are they "fun" speakers? I don't know. I know they are accurate and produce excellent sound from low to high. I only wish Jim Thiel had left a gateway to the future so that after he was gone the legacy would continue. Unfortunately that didn't happen. Sometimes I dream that someone would resurrect the company and continue improving on his designs. Wishful thinking. Always wanted a pair of 2.4/2.7/3.7, but not likely to happen heading into retirement.

I think Erin is a credible reviewer. Eric Alexander of Tekton was offended. Watch and draw your own conclusions. I like Tekton's speakers, I've met Eric a few times and while he is a different Kat, he was not rude to me. I'll continue to buy the speakers; however, this hurts his business and needs to be corrected ASAP. PR nightmare on an already small market space. Maybe there is more than meets the eye to this. I hope so.
