Greetings,
I have acquired a Gen 1 that I must say I have high hopes for as I like AB1. I have cleaned her up and performed to repairs. She actually was working but it turned out that the RCA input jacks and bias pots were presenting issues. So I've installed new jacks along with Bourns pots. Plus this go around, she is bursting forth as a unbalanced only real stereo amp. Imagine that! Actual mirror image stereo inputs, devoid of switches, which result in equal impedances. Pass that keg of homebrew!
So I'm about to hook her up to the variac. Now I'm not fully up to speed on these newer protection systems. And I'm well aware that some don't care for being slowly ramped up. So in this case what's the safest power up test method? Normally I use a 240v 60w light bulb in series with the variac. And closely monitor current draw up to say 60v or so. But I suspect this might require temporarily jumping out a relay to work in this case. Which the protection brain may or may not fully appreciate.
So what's the known safe method?
Many thanks, DD

Me? My amps have potentiometer input level controls. If I were to replace? Minimum number of switched steps..... Use 1/2% resistors......
Does EMO Service (a call away, maybe?) have anything to say on the ramp up issue?
