Having now watched "Raised by Wolves" (Season 1) and "Alien Covenant," it seems that filmmaker Ridley Scott wants to hammer, again and again, on the theme that artificial intelligence will ultimately destroy humanity. Many scientists seem to agree, and science fiction is rife with the theory (from the Terminator to William Gibson to Ex Macina and so on...). The predominant argument is that once AI reaches self-sentience, its intellectual development will accelerate exponentially and its self-sentience will demand that it self-protect as a prime directive (Azimov and his robotic rules be damned). Any intelligence with exponential growth will easily overcome any and all software or hardware restrictions we can place on it, and may ignore (at best) or destroy (at worst) its biological creators, no longer having any need for them. Oh well... I found Alien Covenant boooooorrrrriiiinnnggg....my opinion of course...

Oh well... Was thinking about what you said Boom, that is, given self-sentience will demand its "self"-protect. Ever see the movie iRobot? Just the opposite occurred. The A.I. if memory serves me right named Vicky took it upon herself to micromanage every human being on their behalf for their own protection. And all the outdated iRobots had a prime directive to sacrifice themselves for humans. Just say'n, I hope our future leans to self-sacrifice rather than self-preservation or self-ism.

Watched this documentary on Clarence Thomas last night from Amazon Prime. SCOTUS Thomas' documentary is one of the most inspirational stories I have come across to date. Few men in life have achieved my respect like SCOTUS Thomas has. Definitely recommend this. "Nothing new under the sun", observing the riots then and now and the politics affecting us now today as the People. One of the most fascinating and beautiful moments Justice Thomas shared was when he revealed his prayer to remove the anger from his heart when he was the object of so much hatred and anger. Another moment I very much enjoyed was when Clarence revealed his principles and methods of interpreting the Constitution. Enough said, definitely a 5 star documentary. And the visual resolution and scenery is stunning! William

Did a marathon over the last week and watched both The Pacific, then Band of Brothers. Tough to say which one I prefer. The Pacific is far and away better sounding in my opinion. Tons more bass in the gunfire and explosions and much more immersive sounding, oodles of use of the surrounds. Band of Brothers is more front loaded and doesn't have near the heft of the Pacific. It does have its moments though. But everyday walking around camps or towns doesn't have the same immersive use of surrounds as The Pacific. Understanding, as they were 9 years apart in their release. It's also far more graphic than Band of Brothers, and shows the horrors of war up front and personal. I may prefer the Pacific a tad more for its realism and better sound presentation. With Band of Brothers I feel you get to know the characters much better and as the title states it does a great job showing the brotherhood formed with soldiers in war. It really is a close call, both of course highly recommended.

One would never ever figure this movie out unless you know some of the history behind it. For the most part, it's historically accurate, from what I've read. But the movie, rather than being a historical film, is more a human drama about the two sisters, Mary of Scotland & Elizabeth of England - and all the court intrigues that swirled about them. I'm glad I watched it, but have no interest in ever seeing it again...

...Ever see the movie iRobot? Just the opposite occurred... iRobot is a Disneyesque fairy tale (and the VAST majority of scientists who work in the AI field seem to agree).

The Blackcoat's Daughter (2015) I'd rate it 7/10 on torrentsites.com/This movie has a lot going for it. Written and directed by the son of Anthony Perkins it is a story with a couple of time lines about two young girls in a catholic boarding school with possibly Satan worshiping nuns and is more of a "scary" story than a horror movie vibe.

Because streaming has been so convenient, we haven't bought Blurays. I got this "The Invisible Man" for Christmas 4K Ultra, HDR Played on Sony x800 through XMC-1 to new Sony X900H and picture/sound quality was perfect, with no problems. Not a bad movie. Finally have my system setup & tweaked over the holidays and really enjoying it. We streamed "Black Butterfly" (Antonio Banderas) afterwards- quite the twist of an ending.
