Thanks for the clarification. So, rounding up that's 9 inches high, huh? Sounds like I need to go look into installing that 220V circuit.... Now, if we can just drag a release date or estimated MSRP out of you, we'll be all set! On another note, has anyone considered the potential of using this thing with surround speakers which might not have been designed with the idea of 400W each in mind? I've heard that there's more risk of screwing up a speaker using an amp with not enough power as opposed to too much power, but just wanted to get the input of others on this. You are better off with having an amplifier with plenty of headroom. When an amplifier clips, it can do bad things(tm) to your speakers. You can still blow your speakers out if your amplifier is higher powered and you goose the heck out of the volume though. ;D Doug Yes. Brute force should be respected. Your ears will be history too...

So did anyone get pics of the beta version of the XPR? I thought someone had that on their Emofest 'task list'.

Sweet. I missed that. Thanks.
Is there one with someone standing beside it for scale? Looks like it is about 6 foot 1 or so ;D

OK, so after reading some of the Emofest comments, what is the reality as for the power requirements of this thing? I 'assume' based on the plug that this will run off of standard power. With that said though does it need it's own power circuit? If all of my equipment runs off of one 15amp breaker, including this new amp, will my house burn down (only kind of joking)

If all of my equipment runs off of one 15amp breaker, including this new amp, will my house burn down (only kind of joking) The unit at the show was a prototype and 220V. Production units will be capable of running on 110V or 220V. All Emotiva gear is capable of auto-switching between 110 and 220V. The XPR-7 will not auto switch but does have a manual toggle switch on the back for either voltage. As for the power feeding into it - this is my limitation too. All my gear runs off a 15A feed and I cannot easily add another run. If I were to wire a new house, I would certainly add at least 1 220V and 2x15A circuits. In reality, it may not be too bad as long as you don't listen to deafeningly loud music or have too much gear draining the line. Worst case, you'll be sucking the juice right out of the wall at the expense of everything else.. who needs a refrigerator anyway? ;D Seriously, at just 15A available, I still might consider this unit. Currently with all my gear on and playing a movie at loud levels, I am only draining about 4-5A.

I have a sunfire signature amp that put out 425x5 and runs off a 15 amp breaker runs super cool and will fit in a very small space oh and its been out for like 10 years .

I watch that while turning up the volume knob and even when it's way up (almost uncomfortably so) I have not exceeded 5.x amps.

Jesus of Nazareth. Dan, tell Lonnie to keep the lighting and remove the fancy writing (message) on the XPA-1. The lights are a throwback to Knight Rider when kits sensor went back and forth the the hoff behind the wheel. I like it, those lights where they are. Lonnie's original concept of the XPR-7 (with an XPA-1 perched on top for size comparison). HOLY MOTHER OF GOD

Curiously enough, Lonnie just happened to inadvertently demo current draw to me last weekend with the 7 channel amp in the lab (was that a UPA-7?). He was showing my son how the test equipment works and at one point he had all channels running with some serious wattage that would have been more than loud enough for me. As he toggled through the different analyses the equipment could do, it showed the amp drawing <2 amps.
This was not the point of what he was showing my son, but as he noticed that he paused and pointed out the low current and mentioned that most peoples' concerns about needing separate circuits are unjustified as the amps tend to draw very low currents. The rare moment they are hitting peak powers are for very short bursts, and the current draw does not spike thanks to the internal capacitance in the amps.
That was reassuring for me as my equipment is running on a single 15 A circuit that feeds ~50% of my basement. So, it has my home theater, 1 computer, and various lights on it. But, no other major high current equipment is drawing off that circuit (like, no fridge, no resistive heater, etc.), so I figure I am just fine - even with an XPA-2 and XPA-5 on the line.

you are welcome chuckienut - the extra cool part was having Lonnnie demo his lab stuff to my 10 year old audio-nut in the making... It was one of those touches that showed me how great the people at Emotiva are.

The XPR-7......My Canare 4S11 StarQuad Speaker Cables are getting a woodie Ooops! Can I write that? No kids in this forum; Right? Well, minor kids that is Anyway, I'm starting to write the retirement speech for my MPS-1. Off to the library to join my hickory stick mashies and niblicks.
