Aha, here is the XPR-7! Anybody believe in reincarnation before birth? sherbourn.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=78:sherbourn-7-350&catid=18&Itemid=35So, the only difference being the faceplate, this makes it even harder to swallow the axing of the XPR-7... This is a pure marketing decision then. Don't like that sort of thinking. I thought Emotiva was beyond that. It would have been easier to take if Mr Laufman had the guts to tell it like it is: the XPR-1/2/5 for Emotiva and the 7 channel amp for Sherbourn, so they don't compete. Tell me if I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

Tell me if I'm wrong, but I doubt it. Erwin, You may well be wrong. At the time this announcement on the Sherbourne site was made, Emotiva was fully committed to introducing the XPR-7 under the Emotiva badge. The question is whether the Sherbourne 7-350 will ever make it to market. In the several months following the Sherbourne posting, Emotiva decided to discontinue the UPA-7 and place the XPR-7 on the back burner. The reason given was that the sells of seven channel amps was not robust enough to support the costs of bringing it to market. No doubt, Emotiva will continue to monitor demand for the XPR-7 and if demand increases enough to make it feasible they can quickly ramp up production plans. Emotiva has already spent a lot of money and time on the XPR Series amps and would like nothing more than bringing the XPR-7 out.

I see that Emonatics.com says that the height of the xpr-7 is:
Height: 5 RU (5 Rack Units = 8.75"), standard rack width (17"), and with rack ears.
Is this the total height of the unit or is it without the feets?
(If it is the total height I do not have to buy a new rack)

I see that Emonatics.com says that the height of the xpr-7 is: It's a moot point for now as there the XPR-7 has been shelved for now - unless there is enough demand. (Unfortunately)

I would they shelved it 1. production cost, 2. likely not enough surplus in amp parts to cater bother for the sherborne and xpr-7 for repairs and replacement parts, 3. nail in coffin pointless having 2 amps with different faceplates out put the same power...
looking forward if I had the cash the xpr-7 would an option i would use with or without leds

i like the monitor leads on the xpr-7...
I think emo is looking at whether it practical trying to g or h spec amp to the marketplace all current market research likely says no..
for the cost of the sherbourne 350x7 you could do a 14channel double of 2x xpa-2's and 2x xpa-5's if you don't mind paying the 1+k shipping.
I think the only reason why Emo canned the xpr-7 for the simple fact they didn't have the spare parts stockpile to cover both sherbourne and Emo 350x7 amps so it was 1 or the other, sadly looking at the prices between the 2, better off going to the higher end market 1st...
I do understand why sherbourne got the leg up that i have no issue with it..
mind you it would be interesting to see the emo unit in full swing aswell..

Bumpity bump! Now that the XPR-5 is out........... Lets rally for bringing the XPR-7 discussion back from the dead. Well, in the opening thread, Lonnie said that it was in the planning. But I think that Dan felt that due to poor sales of the UPA-7, they would forego 7 channel amps. I along with other progressive members argued endlessly against a much vaunted opposition for the good sense and virtues of a high powered 7 channel amp rather than a 5/2 combo. (less components costs, less shipping costs, less space, economy, WAF, convenience, less LEDs to contend with, lifting 1 heavy amp rather than having to lift 2, needing 1 x 20A outlet rather than 2 outlets, better for the environment, because I say so and because I make damn good sense). We are going to need Component Action Committee (like a political PAC) to get this done. Buit it will be worth it ;D

I feel that a XPA-7 would be more welcome from a performance/price/shelf space/power requirements/customer demand perspective.

I feel that a XPA-7 would be more welcome from a performance/price/shelf space/power requirements/customer demand perspective. Remove performance from the formula and then you're onto something. Audiophiles who desire high powered amps are not likely to drive mini-vans. Think Porsche 911 Twin Turbo, Nissan GTR, Corvette ZR1. These folks are not interested in getting there. But how you get there. High powered audiophiles are not interested in good enough for the job. They simply demand what represents the best affordable amp there is. The XPA-7 (200 wpc) cannot compete with the XPR-5 or XPR-7 if one is ever built ;D
