if the files are FLAC which you cannot embed cover art into the file like apple lossless, does the system go out and find the cover art, or do you need a jpeg file of the cover art in the music folder of the album?

As I understand the system finds the cover art. Although I thought some of the FLAC encoders including the one I used, Ripstation Micro, found away around this issue and associated album art with the FLAC files. BTW I think you will really like the Duet system, it rocks ( Especially when coupled with a Rhapsody subscription).

iMac playing apple lossless to Airport Express optical into LMC. Using iPhone as the "remote". Works well, might think about moving to actually having a Mac Mini hooked up directly instead of the Airport... we will see.

I have a dedicated media server running Ubuntu Linux, it has 20 hotswap SATA bays, currently holding 6 1TB drives but running out of space so I'll be adding more drives soon..Considering going to 2TB drives though.
Eventually I think I'm going to add a Logitech Transport to my 2 channel system. All my music is in FLAC and I have a wired network throughout the house and an 802.11g (108mbps) wireless setup for the few devices I have that are wireless. For now I have a Linux HTPC with XBMC on it and it works quite nicely.

What do you use to serve music? Do you use a streaming service, or just share out a drive?

A Mac Mini is very nice HTPC. There's some very nice software out there. Of course a true HD AppleTV would be excellent, as well - and less expensive, too.

I just share a whole drive right now. I'm actually thinking of setting up separate arrays for music and pictures and movies though. Eventually when I build and network my whole house system there may be 2 smaller servers for Music, Pictures/Data and then a bigger server for movies. For right now I'm not doing any sort of streaming stuff. I had a DLNA network setup for my PS3 before I had my HTPC's and what not though but DLNA is so buggy.
