Has anybody hooked up their BD players to their DMR-1 or any other receiver via the 7.1 analog inputs? I've been thinking about buying the Oppo BD player and using it's analog outs to the DMR, since the Oppo has analog bass management. That way I can have the lossless codecs and not have to replace my beloved DMR-1 as soon. Because in my mind, that's the only thing I'm missing with the DMR when compared to other newer receivers or pre/pros. Just wondering how the sound quality is compared to using HDMI. I would think it might be the preferred way for some.

It will sound fine. The trouble, though, with any modern day BD player, and in the past with standard DVD players , is the bass management is generally limited to ONE fixed setting in all channels. In the case of the Oppo BDP83 it is the standard 80Hz level so if you have speakers of various sizes where different crossover settings might be more appropriate, you are out of luck.
Obviously, to get more flexible bass management, one would require a more modern AVR/Pre-Pro with HDMI inputs and internal decoding of the new lossless surround formats. One interesting note is that, unlike many BD players, the Oppo also has the ability of sending out an "internally decoded" LPCM multi-channel signal via HDMI even through an older 1.1 or 1.2 HDMI capable unit. Many like this set-up best because it gives you access to some internal features that are not available through bitstream decoding and the sound is at least equally as good.

I have mine paired with an LMC-1 this way (7.1 analog) and it works great. Can't compare it to the HDMI yet... but as casey notes - if the minor limitations (single crossovers, etc) don't affect you - it will work great.

I have the Pio Elite hooked up to my MMC-1 via analog and think it sounds great. The firmware a couple of months ago gave the settings some more flexibility.

Until my beloved XMC-1 shows up, I have my Oppo BDP-83 hooked up thru my Sony ES receiver's analogs and it sounds great with True HD, DTS MA, SACD and DVD Audio. My Emo ERM-1/ERD-1 speakers and Outlaw sub sound good at the 80Hz cross. I just look forward to the single HDMI cable for sound. If it sounds as good as it does now I'll be happy. ;D

My BDP-83 is also running it's multi-channel thru the analog outs - sounds great. Go ahead and do it, ya got nothin' to lose...

This is how I listen to HD audio now.
Sounds great through the LMC, it can only get better via the DMR. ;D

I am using my oppo with the MMC-1 and use the analog outs. Sounds great. Bass management is a little tricky. I love to have FULL control of my system and this is a limiting factor. However, you can at least dial in db + or- to compensate somewhat. I'm happy until the XMC-1 is ready to roll.

I use the analog inputs on my Anthem AVM-30 with my Oppo Blu-Ray and have had no issues. As long as I don't have it set to Analog Direct I have full bass management for movies. Sounds awesome, I have no need for HDMI for my audio, only my video.

I've also got an AVM-30 and that's exactly what I'll be doing with my Panny BR player (Christmas present).
