Has anyone heard differences between interconnects on their ERCs? I was doing a little testing yesterday between different ICs connected from my ERC to RSP and I could not hear any differences. The ICs used were fairly expensive palladium ICs, mid priced ICs, and cheap-o ICs. Now I'm not sure if I proved expensive ICs are bull or that the ERC's output voltage is high enough to make all ICs perform the same.
I have another CDP and I'm gonna try to test the different ICs on it and see what I find.

I have heard differences with interconnects in my various systems. Some claim they can hear and some claim they can't. Everyone's ears are different. If you can hear it and its worth the money then go for it, but if you can't hear it then save your cash.

I've only heard differences b/w ICs when I went from really cheap copper ICs like the ones included when you get your cable box to un-shielded Silver ICs that cost me $60. I really heard the difference because @ the time my system was very harsh and fatiguing. I kept things the same and put in the Sillver ICs and the harshness was a bit less. Good Luck. JD

Jedinite24, I had the same experience recently with the USP-1/XPA-2 setup I brought back from Emofest. I didn't have any of my regular ICs available (Monoprice) so I grabbed a pair that came with one of my components. I was disappointed in the sound. It was harsh and and irritating. I assumed it was one of the components, which are both B-stock. I finally decided to try a pair of very short DIY ICs I made 10 or 15 years ago out of Kimber PBJ wire and Monster Cable RCAs, no shielding. The improvement was stunning, to my great relief. Everything smoothed out and their was the kind of "air" that I was expecting. I am a skeptic about the claimed differences in wire, but there was no mistaking this. I concede that there is a difference, at least between decent quality wire and the kind thrown in for free with most components.

I'm assuming you are using the analog output on the ERC? Using the digital out will yield little to no difference as the receiver or whatever DAC will be doing the decoding rather than the ERC's internal DAC.
Using the analog output I have noticed differences in sound quality. How big will depend on the cables and how good your playback gear is. Just this evening a friend brought his Rotel 1090 preamp over along with some Monoprice cables. We hooked the 1090 up to an Adcom gfa-5500 and, of course, the ERC. I let him hook it up with his Monoprice. When the system was fired up it was a bit underwhelming. I grabbed a pair of Bluejeans cables, LC RCA's, and placed them between the ERC and the 1090, the improvement was vast, way more detail, transparency and overall response.
In regards to the ERC's voltage I actually have not heard much difference in the units output. When leaving the amp volume the same and switching from the ERC to another player there is very little difference in volume between players I've used. I doubt if the voltage would effect the sound of cables any way.

i am wondering, can anyone who owns a ERC-1 who has used both RCA & XLR type innterconnects which one sounds best and why do you think so? I ask because i'm wondering about getting a dedicated CD player and I am also going to get a pre/pro with a stereo XLR input. I use an Oppo blu for blu-movies and SACD & DVD-A but not for cd's. I have cd's but don't really listen to them since using my Oppo for the other two music formats. i have a lot of older cd's that are not available in either of those formats. i would love to hear from anyone who could give me some personal insight!

I'm currently trying some Yacco Cables Whisper IC's which are silver. So far, they sound incredible with the ERC.

I found that my Music Hall CD25.2 actually seemed slightly louder than the ERC-1, which makes me wonder what the point of the higher voltage output on the ERC-1 is. When I have time to mess around, though, I like the fact that the ERC-1 has two active RCA out pairs for comparing interconnects, and in my case, I want to run it through my MuFi tube buffer and see if that makes any noticeable difference.

Hey all. So just ordered me an ERC-1, yay!, and checked out the manual and all. I was wondering if anyone knows if it is alright to use a disc cleaner in the player( not that I plan on playing any dirty filthy discs mind you ).....you know, the type that has those micro brushes that spin and clean the laser? I have not come across any info about that. Cant wait to get this puppy.

If you look at the specs for both players the ERC-1 has 1V RMS while the Music Hall has 2.5V listed. The ERC-1 has a peak of 7V.

Okay, I think I was distracted by, or misunderstood, the "no wimpy 2V output here!" aspect of the manual.

I don't know, but I've used those on three different players (a CD changer, a CD player, and a DVD/universal player) that were having difficulty reading discs and it didn't do any good in all three cases. In what circumstances have you used a laser cleaner and what were the results?

Generally I use one intermittently, say every month, to keep things clean. I did however have an issue a couple of times with my Oppo 970HD (universal player) where it had trouble reading a disc and after a quick spin of a cleaner disc played the DVD fine. I would assume using such a disc, there would be nothing to harm a player.
