Can anyone compare the 2 speakers I posted this thread about. I love my polks but have always wondered what the 8.3's would sound like compared to them. Do the Emo speakers have alot of bass? The polks can realy crank out tight loud and supprisingly deep bass for not using big subs. With the emos having bigger subs I have always wondered how they do in the bass department. The 150's are 2 versions back of the rtia9 polks. Just for comparing.

The Emotiva ERT-8.3 has impressive bass response. Many 8.3 owners have posted that they don't think a sub woofer is even needed when for listening to 2-channel music. The Emotiva tower is one of the better full range speakers on the market.
Choosing speakers is one of the most subjective things we do when building a HT system. The best way to go about it is by listening to as many speakers as possible in your own home using your own equipment. Emotiva offers a 30-day trial period on all of their products. Bring a pair of 8.3 speakers in for an audition and give them a workout with your gear and let your ears decide if they are for you. If they don't happen to be your cup of tea, just return them within the trial period, no questions asked. But I must warn you, very few people ever return Emotiva speakers -- they are truly exceptional performers.

I don't use a sub with my 8.3's. They have plenty of bass and they sound awesome.
Let your ears decide, only you know what you like.

Has any one compared Definitive Mythos ST Main Fronts,Defintive Mythos 10 Center,Definitive Mythos Gem XL Surr.Side and backto Ert8.3 main,Erm6.3 center,Erd surr.side and back? My system sounds great for music and movies but would like to try a new system.Would i hear a big change in sound ? I do not want to sell my system to hear a minor change. My Emotiva amps sound fantastic with this system and by the reviews should sound as good with the Emotiva speakers.I need some input from Emo people who have their speaker system.

I would need 2 subs with the 8.3 for good bass? What is the sound of the 8.3 in music and movies ? I also listen to 2 ch. music and what are the sounds of the 8.3 in that area?

I think he was referring to the Infinity's he had. The 8.3's, with a good amp will sound good in the bass dept. Since you are looking at music only, maybe you don't need a sub. Give them a listen the decide. I personally prefer a 2.1 channel system myself.

I listen to music on my 8.3's without a sub and I think they sound spectacular...I do use an Outlaw sub for movies though...

I love my system and Emotiva componets and have absoluety zero regrets with my purchase's. With that said...I have never heard the Mythos speakers so I really hve no idea how they would sound next to the 8.3's

Any answers to my questions if anyone has heard a comprision to the Emotiva system from my Deftech system? Bruce, simple answer........ buy the 8.3, 6.3, ERD-1 package while on sale........ take advantage of the 30 day in home trial........ compare side by side and decide for yourself..... return them if not happy...... sell the others if you are happy...... ;D I have 4 ERD-1s, and the 6.3, which match seamlessly to my home made main speakers. If my mains weren't so damn good, I would have 8.3s and a complete Emotiva speaker system.

Bruce..
What Animo suggested is really the only way to tell if there is a difference..but it will not be cheap to ship everything back if you decide to do so...not to mention that its not exactly easy to manhandle those 8.3 around and then pack them up again...
While I have never heard the Mythos ST's from what I've read they should be some great sounding speakers. What do you feel you are missing that has you considering another system???

I'll be honest, the Mythos ST's are some of my favorite sounding speakers. I have considered buying these myself on numerous occassions. I'm not really a fan of the bi-pole designed speakers they have, but the ST and STS's are awesome IMO.

The 8.3's bass response was better but neither speakers goes quite as low as I prefer. That's why they make subs.

Hey Bruce, I have listened to the Mythos and all of Emotiva's speakers as well, although not side by side and maybe a couple of months apart. Due to the tiime that's past I forget some of the specifics but can give you what impressions that I remember. The Mythos by comparison with the 8.3 sounded slightly harsher and not as full sounding as the 8.3, but the Mythos has a bit more extended treble while the 8.3's treble is a little less extended but a bit more smoother and "sweet". With that said, the 8.3 treble maybe a little too soft and smooth for some taste. The 8.3's bass response was better but neither speakers goes quite as low as I prefer. I did compare the Mythos side by side with the Revel f-12 and both myself and the salesman at the hifi store felt that the Revel won out in the midrange and bass with the treble being a toss up. The Revel compares better with the 8.3 as both have dual 8 inch woofers for deeper but still tight bass response. I'd really like to hear these 2 speakers side by side, but there was a couple months between listening to the 8.3's vs the Revel f12, but from memory, I think the Revel had a fuller midrange and overall better bass response but the overall sound was much more natural through the 8.3's. However, the other problem with my comparison is the 8.3 was driven by Emotiva amps and the Revel was being driven by a Rotel amp/preamp combo and also with a Sony ES Receiver. I'd really like to hear all of these with the same amps but I realize that's just not going to happen unless I try them out at home. I also hope to buy some new speakers next year and will definitely go back and listen to the Emotiva 8.3's and the Revel f12's again, also considering the Salk Song Towers and the Monitor Audio RX-6's. All I can recommend is that you audition as many speakers as you can as the "right or best" speaker for you depends largely on your personal preference and taste. Kinda like whether you prefer blondes, brunettes or redheads. lol Happy listening. yeah but which Mythos did you hear....there are like 10 of them lol.
