Has anyone heard, or own the Monitor 11's v.5 or v.6? These are close in price to the ERT 8.3's. Has anyone heard both? I am trying to find the competition for the ERT 8.3, but more on performance than price. any takers?....

I don't have a comparison of the ERT 8.3 vs Monitor 11. My experience (as a rookie stand point) was a comparison between Paradigm Monitor 9, Millenia 300, Studio 100 and B&W 683. All of them powered with the same amps (Anthem). I can tell you that when the sales man switched live (same song) between all of them the worst speaker was the B&W 683. He had to crack-up the volume in order to meet the same volume (db) of the Paradigm. Of course the best sound come from the Studio 100 but the Monitor 9 was very close to it. For example my wife didn't noticed any difference between both and told me that she likes more the sound from the monitor 9. The advantages of her is that at that moment she didn't know the price of all these speakers. Although the Millenia sound terrific, same highs as Studio 100 but it lacks the low frequency of the Monitor 9 and Studio 100. Basically require a sub. Studio 100 vs Monitor 9, similar low frequencies; high frequency, the Studio is little better. Although the pair of Monitor 9 was around $1000 pair vs a pair of Studio 100 was $3000.
This is my 2 cents.
Hope somebody can provide a better comparison and/or has the experience between both ERT 8.3 vs Paradigm Monitor.

I have both the Emotiva 6.2s & the 6.3s and they are fantastic speakers so I figure the 8.3s are also. You have to figure that if both speakers are about the same price, I would think you're getting less speaker with Paradigm because of the middleman markup. Emotiva has more money to sink into speaker components because there is no middleman markup. Just how my mind works. ;D

The CC-390 center channel is what got me poking around Paradigm, that thing just looks bad. Paradigm has an excellent reputation for making quality speakers though - so I wouldn't just want to discount them.

I actually went to our local shop sound of peoria and listened to a pair of monitor 11's v.5. They were powered by a b&k refference 200.2. They sounded ok... They weren't as clear & airy as my X statiks, and the mid bass wasn't as defined, but the lower bass really trumped my X statiks. I thought they sounded balanced, nothing was really bad or lacking, though for the money I still probably would have bought my X statiks, they just sounded more refined.... just my 2 cents

He had to crack-up the volume in order to meet the same volume (db) of the Paradigm. Well that doesnt exactly make a speaker bad... That just means there is differences in the speakers sensitivity. Throw a klipsch speaker into the mix, you would have to raise the volume on all of them to match its ouput. But just letting you know it has very little to do with how good/bad a speaker can be.
