A question on mounting ERD-1's. Is there anyone using them with speaker mounts such as ones like these: omnimount.com/Products/Speaker_Mounts/I currently have my surrounds supported from mounts like these, (but dropped down from the ceiling instead of the walls) due to room issues that prevent wall mounting on my right surround. The ERD-1 manual shows one image that appears to show a keyhole slot in the speaker itself that would enable me to use mounts like I have instead of the wall-mount fixture included from Emo. But, the words in the manual only mention the Emo fixture for mounting, so it's not clear on whether they can be mounted using mounts such as I list. Does anyone know for sure? Thx, Mark

I used a similar mount for my ERD's. The trick is to mount the supplied plate to your new mount. Then just slip the ERD onto the regular plate as originally designed. Chances are you will have to drill a couple holes in the plate, but it's not a problem.
Works GREAT !

Thx - so there's no keyhole slot in the ERD-1's themselves? (No biggie if not, just curious...)

Actually, for the future, some pre-drilled holes (ovals/slots perhaps) in the middle of the plate might be something Emotiva could add - it would give some extra flexibility.

I agree...I would gladly drill my own, but I would prefer they came pre-drilled. If I were to drill my own holes, listen, then decide I don't like the sound...my 30-day return option is (or at least should be) pretty much hosed. So, Lonnie, Big Dan, and Dann...put that on the "easy to execute/do it soon" wish list, please!

I understand your intent, but the reality of this is that no matter where, or how many, holes are provided by Emo......they aren't going to be right for all the different mount options out there.
If you are really on the fence about the ERD's, and you don't want to mount them flat, just Mickey Mouse something temporary to assess the sound. These things aren't exactly 'big buck' speakers.....don't worry too much about the return policy.
Buy 'em.....hang 'em....enjoy 'em.

www.mountdirect.com/LCM_LCD_TV_Monitor_Ceiling_Mount_p/lcm.htm i bought 4 of these for mounting my erd-1s, there is a soffit that runs around the area that i am using for the speakers and leave me no choice but to ceiling mount to place them where i want. that and because i didnt want to run the rear speakers 10 ft back from the seating area incase i ever close off the area with some drywall

for you guys using the ERD's, do you mount them to the rear wall or side wall behind the listening position ?

Both I have 2 on the side wall and 2 on the rear wall However, if I was doing 5.1 (vs 7.1), I feel pretty confident in saying you could do either and be very happy - do which ever is easier for you to wire.

For 7.1, you would add 2 more to the rear wall. Here's my setup. By the way, my door is always open to a fellow Emophile and Cowboys fan. Gimme a shout anytime.

I'm just wondering the erd-1's in side surround setup, should they be directly to the side to the listening position? can they be a bit back or front of the listening position?

I don't know the "technically" correct answer, but if it was me - if I had to chose between in front or behind - I'd go with behind.

How about height? I was thinking of mounting mine to some sort of speaker stand...
(We plan on selling in the near future...)

I think they are specially designed to catch any fishy reflections.

Animo, any issues with them being that high. I assume that your ear level is much, much lower than that....i hope!

I believe the general feeling is they are less height sensitive and are generally placed higher on the wall, above listening position. However, if you have them at ear height - it shouldn't be an issue as long as you have some room between your ear and the speaker
