Well, I got my replacement ERC-1 today, and just like I expected it runs completely silent. No chirp whatsoever ;D. I'm not sure how the technician didn't notice the problem when I sent it in, but the bottom line in Emotiva sent me a new one anyways, so I am very happy with their support. Thanks for all of your feedback, without it I probably would have believed that the ERC-1 is just a noisy player. Glad you got a perfect replacement, it was the right thing for Emotiva to do. Enjoy your new player, with out the 'chirp'

Congrats on finally getting to hear just how absolutely silent the ERC-1 CD Player is -- when it is supposed to be. Did you ever stop to think that the "Chirping" noise in the previous unit was someone's pet Humming Bird? You had a unique CD Player... how many other people could say that they owned a CD Player that was so totally accurate and convincing that a Humming Bird took up residence in their unit? ;D ;D You realize, don't you, that you have doomed that poor little bird to certain death? How heartless can one be? You are no longer unique. Now you are just another, run of the mill, ERC-1 owner. I would turn you in to the SPCA for cruelty to animals, but when they came to investigate they would just fall in love with the unrivaled performance of the best CD Player they have ever heard. I hope you are proud of yourself! Happy listening. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

FWIW I service Xerox machines and sometimes they make a noise that some people hear and other don't. I had machines that made noise that bothered some people in the office and most of the people in the office thought they were crazy because they heard nothing.
Maybe having a tech that works for an amp and speaker company listen for a noise problem is not the best idea as his hearing might have seen better days. For higher pitched noises I always ask a women because they hear them better in general.
Glad to hear Emo took care of it for you.

I have the ERC1 and it is so noisy it drove me to send it back to Emotiva. They replaced the cd unit and when I got it back it was still making loud noise when spinning the disc. It drives me crazy when I am listening to soft music. I now have had the rca out and the balanced out go dead on the unit. I was going to throw the cd player in the garbage but tried the optical out and it still works. Now I use a small digital converter to make it play. I was going to up grade the CD player to ERC3 and called to talk about the unit and was told that the new cd player is still noisy. I wanted to keep my system all Emotiva but I think I will go with the NAD cd player. I tried one at home and it is super quite and has a much more beautiful sound stage than the Emotiva cd players. Why has the Emotiva company not addressed the noise problem of the disc spinning noise in their cd players? They know they have a problem with them. I am happy with all other Emotiva equipment that I have.

Define noisy?
It's never going to be silent... it's spinning a piece of plastic at 200-500 rpm.
Many people complain about noisy CD players but normally it seems to be they're upset because it's not silent.

With music playing and sitting ten feet away, there is not issue. I'm sure that with any cd player if I turn the volume down very low and put my ear up to it, I will hear the disc spinning. The ERC-1 has been great for me.

My ERC-1 is going on seven years now playing everyday with out noise. I did have to have it serviced after about a year of playing to replace the loader which was probably my own fault for impatiently shoving the cd's into it not allowing it to load them on it's own. It is the one component in my system that will be truly missed upon it's demise. Sorry about your experience with your ERC-1 Gallichio. To tell the truth I'm not sure that I would replace it with a ERC-3 because of the noise complaints that have been posted. Hope you can find a player that makes you happy.

Everyone needs a disc spinner, but consider a streamer. It 's a great way manage your music library.

Theres always going be a bit of a whir or some wind noise when a cd player is spinning a disc, but it should be pretty damn quite. If you can hear it over your homes noise floor from across the room (like I could with my faulty ERC), then its either an abnormally loud cd player or theres something wrong with it. Ive had the replacement ERC in my system since I started this thread in 2009 and I cant hear it unless I'm within a few feet with no music playing.

Well it sounds like I am just the lucky one to have a noisy ERC1?
I have 7 CD/DVD players in my home and my ERC1 is so noisy and I get so aggravated when I listen to a soft piece of classical music that I turn it off and leave my stereo room in disgust. I don't expect it to be silent but I don't expect the noise to be audible from about 6 or 7 feet away. If anyone does not believe it and you are in Illinois I invite you to come to my home and listen. It's not my system, it's not my rack, it's not my power, It's not my interconnects, It's not my speakers, it's not my room, It is the noisy ERC1. As I said I did return it to Emotiva with no improvement when it was returned. I was also told by one of the people that answered the phone at Emotiva that the new ERC3 is just as noisy. I do stream with my Apple computer but I still have an extensive CD collection and I want to use it. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to make it less noisy? I would like to keep my system all Emotiva. I have tried the NAD player at home and I am leaning toward that player. It's $699.00 and for now cost is a factor.
Thanks Mike

Thanks Mike I own an ERC-2 slot loading Emotiva CD player and it is very quiet! No extra noise at all. Love the sound and the DAC rivals the DC-1 !! Sorry you have an intolerable player. Love the slot loader!!

I just could not take it anymore. The noisy Emotiva CD Player drove me nuts and had to go. I sold all my Emotiva equipment and now I have a used but new to me system. I purchased the Ayre CX-7EMP CD player, (I can put my ear on this CD player while it is playing and I can't hear any spinning noise at all) A pair of class A Pass Labs XA100 mono blocks, A Pass Labs Pre-Amp X0.2, Nordost Red Dawn cables and speaker wires, Nordost Thor power distribution conditioner unit, All power cabling is from Ice Age Audio. I am still using my Magnepan 2.6Rs that I purchased new over 20 years ago. I just want to say I really enjoyed all the Emotiva equipment I once owned except for the CD player. The owners of Emotiva are Wonderful people, I have meet them. I also once won a DAC from Emotiva when they were here in Chicago. Emotiva served me very well over the years and I still very much like the company. Emotiva really is a great company. They give a tremendous value for the money. I am extremely happy with the new system and now instead of thinking about equipment my main focus is listening to the music that I love. You can't really compare the sound of my Emotiva system to what I am listening to now and you also can not compare the dollars spent. I will always keep an eye on Emotiva products and want to wish everyone here at Emotiva happy listening and God Bless. Attachments:

I have had my ERC-1 since it came out. The sound I hear when it starts up is the transport moving into position to accept a disk. The next sound is the transport pulling the disk into place and locking it down. Then there is a second of spin up sound before music that is super clean is coming out. The only way I can hear any drive noise is to put my ear within inches of the unit with the music volume around 80 dBs or less.
The sound my ERC-1 makes when I put a disk in the slot is music to my ears.
