Momma took off to Lacrosse with the girls, my neighbors both sides of me are gone...... So........got some Steely Dan, Almond Brothers, and 3 Dog Night and flat out CRANKED my setup today for the first time.... HOLEY MOLEY........ I gotta brag......My Emo setup flat out ROCKS. The dual Epik Dynasty's are a perfect compliment to the 8.3's Heck I thought I was center stage front row. I did have it CRANKED over today......(I really only went to just a bit past 3/4 and left it there for some time. I have this sh** eatin grin on my face fellers...... I impressed the heck out of myself today. ;D ;D ;D I did knock a few pics off the wall. I must admit, by far, this is the best damn stereo I ever had. Cant wait to hear the centers and the surrounds when the UMC1 gets here. I was never able to really cut loose till today here all by my lonesome..... Just -hadda share!

Ray That story reminds me of a time that I turned my system up to full bore. I was living in Dallas, TX at the time and lived in an apartment building with an indoor hallway with apartment entrances on both sides. Down the hall three doors lived a couple of druggies that would put on acid rook and turn it up to where all you could hear was loud distortion. I was entertaining a few friends one Saturday evening when the distortion started up again. One of my guests just happened to have brought a recording of a monsterous railroad steam engine gaining speed from a dead stop. The sound kept building and building as the engine gained speed, until the roar of the engine became deafening. This was the actual recording of that engine in its last official run (his grandfather owned the railroad and the engine). I think you are beginning to grasp what I was about to do. hehe I cut some long runs of speaker wire and moved my Infinity Monitor IIA speakers into the hallway, turned the volume on my Crown DC 300A power amps full up, placed the steam engine record on my turntable, dropped the stylus down on the beginning track and cranked the Volume Control on the Crown IC 150 A Pre Amp. It was beautiful, the sound of the steam engine ever building as it gained speed got louder and louder as the steam engine reach top speed. The walls in the hallway were literally breathing in and out in rythm to the "chuuggg, chuuggg, whooshhh" of the brute power from that monsterous engine. Suffice it to say, the drugheads turned down their amplified distortion and we never heard them playing their system again! I think we probably scared the crap out of them... literally. That record of the steam engine had the most dynamic range of any record I can ever recall listening to. It was at least as dynamic as the THELMA HOUSTON & THE PRESSURE COOKERS direct to disc Sheffield Labs record of I GOT THE MUSIC IN ME. That is one evening I will never forget. lol ...nor will the druggies down the hall. ;D ;D ;D ;D I had two Crown DC 300s bridged with one driving each Infinity speaker. How would you like to wake up from a drug induced stooper to the sounds of a steam engine baring down on you??? Whoa!! We laughed about that night for years afterwards. I know it wasn't a very mature thing to do, but I was young... and it was FUN.

roadrunner's story reminds me of the time at Purdue when we convinced the dorm manager to let us put my stereo into this large room that was off the main dining hall. The room was used as a private dining area for special occasions. Over a break while most were gone, we set up a stereo in that room. As I recall, we ordered Domino's pizza and when then asked for the room #, we just said, "go into the 2-southeast hall and go toward the music". They found us - no problem...what a great day!

Sorry, I can't resist...Are the Almond Brothers related to the Allman Brothers Band? (one of my favorites) lol

I know exactly how that sounds! 285wpc in 2 channel mode streaming flac to the LMC-1....YES! The UPA-7 is a very capable amp. Hey knucklehead, in my days the sign had college and weed both pointing in the same direction ;D

Ah, I still love that album. The CD doesn't do justice to the Direct to disc album. One of my all time favorites. I think it was Nautilus records who coined the phrase on their DtoD offerings "For a better high and a tighter bottom." It's kind of been my mantra for recorded music ever since.

I love it when that happens (everybody is gone) and I can get about 115db at my listening chair, and my XPA-5 isn't even broke in yet.
