I am thinking of getting 4 ERD-1's to replace my monopole surround speakers. My room is 20'LX11'WX8'H. The HT is setup on the 20'L. I have 2 questions: 1) The Listening Position is at 8-9' from the back wall and of course the sidewalls are at 5.5'. How will this affect the surround sound as it is 3' farther. Will Audyssey adequately correct for this? 2) The left side has a sliding glass door, is there a way to mount this speaker without a wall (maybe a purpose built panel)? I am using an Onkyo 806, will it have any trouble running these 4 ohm speakers (OK, that's 3 questions)? The LCR will be powered by an XPA-3 as of tomorrow . Thanks for any help Moto

I have a siimilar setup - rears are about 10-12' behind, the sides are about 5' - no issues. You set the speaker distances in your processor setup. 1) no issue 2) it's possible to put it on a stand or something. I assume it will sound different though since it doesn't have the wall to reflect off of. 3) I'd check your Onkyo manual. If it has a switch allowing it to work with 4 ohm loads, then it's probably fine. If not, then it's probaly only for 6-8 ohm and I suspect it will have problems. But I'm no expert

A lot of Lounge members use their Onkyo AVR to driver the ERD-1 speakers without experiencing problems of any kind. They are a very easy load to drive. It is not necessary to fiddle with the Ohms switch on your AVR, it will work fine with it set to 8 Ohms.
Some people have made adapters to mount their ERD-1 from the ceiling while using the furnished mounting plate. There are also commercially available speaker mounts that will do the same.
There may be room to mount your ERD-1 above the sliding glass door and that should work well also. Using your AVR's auto setup EQ routine, there is a great deal of flexibility in placement. Experiment and have fun.

How about a Marantz SR6003 running a pair of ERD's? I believe the 6003 has pretty robust amp section as well and I also have a 2 channel amp driving my mains already.

This Marantz AVR would easily drive the ERD-1 speakers. We have several Lounge Members using the 6003 AVR as their pre/pro and they use the 6003's internal amps to drive the surrounds. I have yet to see an owner of any receiver report problems driving the ERD-1. Yes, it is a 4 Ohm speaker, but is a very easy load to drive.

Folks have attached (via a suitable bracket) their ERDs to the ceiling. I would seriously look at doing that.
Your receiver should be fine - it may get a little hotter though, so maybe measure the heat as it runs now and then keep an eye on it when you connect up the new speaiers.
