Okay, I am nearing my time to purchase the USP-1. I did a pre-configuration to see how it would be cabled for my system and I have the XLR run for the sub to USP-1.
Before I do this.............as this is going to be in place of a Blu-Ray player.........Has anyone owned the ERC and played it for a while then added the USP-1 later?
If so how would you describe the differences? I currently have to use the 7.1 outs on my Denon for the ERC with a twin conx on my LF to sub and would really like to move that all to the USP-1 for what I think would be a much better set-up.
Money is not the issue with me but competing priorities for other family needs does get in the way so I have to choose wisely!
Very much appreciate any feedback!

I am one of those owners who initially used the ERC-1 connected through their AVR. I later purchased the USP-1 and hooked up the ERC-1 to it. Using the USP-1 yielded an instant improvement in sound quality. I heard cleaner, more accurate reproduction that had a more extended response with better imaging, clarity, separation, and expanded sound stage with more depth and breadth. Going from my Oppo 980 H and Denon 2910 to the Emotiva ERC-1 was a monster improvement in sound quality in every way you can think of. I had the ERC-1 connected to direct analog inputs on my AVR and was very impressed with the improvements. The scale of that improvement literally stunned me. Then when the USP-1 shipped I bought one of the first batch to go out to customers. I am a music lover and I have to tell you that adding the USP-1 to the mix was the single best improvement I have made to the sound quality in my system. The combination of the ERC-1 and the USP-1 is a music lover's dream come true. The synergy of the ERC/USP combo is pure musical bliss. It took my system to a plateau that it had never known. It literally allowed me to rediscover my CD collection. If music is important to you, the USP-1 will give your system an instant step-up whether you play CDs or LPs. You will be extremely happy with the results if you add the USP-1 to your system. ;D ;D ;D ;D

Roadrunner, This was exactly the post I was looking for and thank you. I am a major music person and cd's continue to be my format of choice. I like to listen to the entire recording and not much on song lists except for the satellite radio. Thanks very much for your reply! I will post my impressions as well once I get it all hooked up and this was the final nudge or kick in the butt that I needed.

Of all the Emo gear I've purchased I'm most happy with the USP-1. I also had the ERC-1 first and was running it thru an Onkyo 806. I feel the USP-1 povided a significant upgrade to sound quality. I use the large Polk RTI a9s and had been running them on large. The USP-1 enabled me to use the sub with the Polks and maintain a pure analog path. Look forward to your impressions.

Thanks everyone! I got lucky and picked up the USP-1 from Jdiddy for a very fair price. I will post impressions once I get it rigged up.
I think that cable upgrades will be the last thing I do as I want to wait till I get the XMC and XPA-2 to get the XLR's. Pretty jazzed about this unit and have been so patient in the last 5 months. ;D

I recently got an ERC-1 and am waiting for my USP-1. Really excited to get it now! The ERC-1 has been pretty satisfying, except it was having trouble with a disc yesterday that didn't look scratched to me. Still getting used to the loading mechanism, too, just have to remember to wait when first powering on.

I say this because the CD analog inputs of any AVR still has some processing steps going on so the signal is far from clean, whereas the inputs of the multi channels are unprocessed.

Neekos
I know that most AVRs subject their 2-channel inputs to analog/digital conversion even though they appear to be analog inputs; and, for that reason, the multi-channel pre-ins are the only way to get true analog processing. However, the AVR that I use has the ability (thru a set-up setting) to either select digital processing for the "CD input" or select direct analog processing. The owner's manual says that selecting the "direct analog" setting bypasses the AVR's digital circuits. In essence, that one input can be used as pure analog, just like using the 7.1 inputs, and has the same limitations -- no DSP and no Subwoofer management. Using the "direct analog" is noticably cleaner in my AVR.
I was really surprised how much better the ERC-1 sounded after changing the set-up option to "direct analog". When I added the USP-1 to my HT system, the sound quality took another step up in the sound quality it provided. The ERC-1 used in its default analog input easily outperformed the Oppo 980H and Denon 2910. Modifying set-up options for the CD Input, garnered an additional improvement in sound quality; and, when switching to the USP-1, there was yet another improvement.
So if your goal was to see if using the 7.1 analog inputs to your AVR would make your ERC-1 sound better, the answer is yes... but it will NOT be as big an improvement as going to the USP-1. I hope this answered your question. ;D

so, yes it is.... ;D
Thanks, I'm actually doing the same thing with my Yamaha 665 (which has a Pure Direct mode), but I still prefer the sound through the Multi Channel inputs.
