Going to be buying the Emo speaker cables and I have 2 questions. My rack is located further away from one front speaker than the other and of course the center channel distance falls somewhere in the middle. So, do I need to have all 3 cables that are same length? Can one be 6m, one 4m, and one 3m? It seems silly to have a 6m speaker cable for a speaker that's only one meter away. And, what are some thoughts about the differences between X Series and Ultra? I have read ad nauseum reviews of cables and interconnects and many feel expensive wire is a big waste of money. ? Ec

They don't need to be the same length.

Any thoughts on the X Series vs. the Ultra?

Ec Unless you have extreme differences in the length of your cables, it won't make any difference. All of your lengths are under 10m - everything will sound the same. As for the cables, based on what the Emo staff has said, the difference between X and Ultra is build quality, not sound quality. When you look at the product pages with the cross section of the cables, you can see the differences.

The main differences are going to be that the Ultra is 12AWG and the X is 10AWG and some cosmetics. Either will work just fine and there will probably be minimal difference.

For resale I think it is wise to build out your cables in equal lengths. You can get the Ultra Series for just just over .75 per foot at . . . emotiva.com/shop/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=76It's important to think ahead. As you figure out that cable really matters, you will be selling it and moving up to stuff that costs perhaps $180 per foot.

Thanks for the info. However, I will never be spending $180.00 a ft on cable. That to me is more in the mind of the listener. I've auditioned some pretty expensive cables and interconnects over the years, and while I admit that you must have a decent cable of adequate thickness 10ga -12ga, and be well made, insulated and provide proper stress relief, that's where it ends for me. I've read many articles where double blind tests were done between decent quality speaker wire and real expensive speaker cables and the results show no real appreciable differences either sonically or quantifiably.
Of course everyone has a point of view...... But spending $11,000.00 on 3 speaker cables is not on my list :-)

As mentioned i would keep the main's the same length. I have 8ft for each side and 6ft for the center. Also give's me some leeway to play around with posistioning as well I would go with the Xseries since they aren't to pricey and they are 10g

Do you drive a Porche, work on Porches, or just envy Porches ?? Any way you slice it, you should aspire to own $180+ per foot cables. ;D

Well, I drive one. I'd never be able to afford it if I spent $10,000.00 on speaker cables :-)

I have never understood how some people will spend more on speaker cables than the amp that drives them. I know of a guy who has some Tara Labs cables, I think he paid $7,000.00 for a pair, being driven by an Athem Statement P2 that he paid $6,500 for. Wut?
To each their own. High end audio is definitely a bell curve when it comes to price/performance ratio IMHO.

Come on commission, daddy needs a new boat!"
