* I do really think that your Emotiva combo is an excellent alternative to receivers in the $1,200 to $2,000 range. It's a tremendous value. Bob, you're still missing the point, which is that the Emo products pointed out by Chuckie are not merely an excellent alternative to higher priced receivers but rather they are leaps and bounds better in sound quality. The common factor being price and not SQ! The Emo products take you to a much higher level that no Onkyo receiver can match, regardless of price. Therefore, suggesting the Onkyo as an alternative makes no sense. And, for the record, I'm not "fan boy"ing you; just stating facts. Chuckienut you deserve an award. I would not have been that nice... thelordoftherings, a "poke" is the Polkaudio forums, go check it out you will love it I promise. Yes, Chuckie, you are hereby annointed as Saint Chuckienut.

Hey, that would not be the first time I'm missing the (yours?) point. "Fanboying me" , you? You get me confused here. You seem to be polite though, I like that. I'm really into that "to a much higher level'. Bring it on! Am all ears.

I would not have been that nice... Really? Well, I guess that just prooves the differences in character quality between mentalities of different type of people. Hopefully you can wake up someday, and start on your own trying to make this place a better place. He did, why don't you?

May Saint Chuckienut bless you.. You know eman, I just don't know you yet. So, yes, I ain't sure what you truly mean, and I only got words from your post to go by. It does take a certain amount of careful time to get to know another. It's not like we're face to face here, we're on a PC; action reaction, it's just normal. But now that you are posting your second post addressing me, I do really appreciate, as I can see that you do have a heart of a human being. I love it when people call me Bob, it's the name that my dear and lovely mother gave me, with the benediction of my supercool Dad. I know about Polk Audio, but I did not know that Poke meant that. "Having Fun", that's what life is all about, and I'm all in. You can now ignore my previous post, you're cool now. Bob ...And now, back with the tropic. ;D (Excuse my French.)

Hey Bob, were fine here OK. Thanks for your nice comments.
My "Poke" instead of Polk is just a humorous subtle jab at Polk. Many people in the States, especially the South, tend to drop the "L" sound and pronounce it as Poke. It is just a little funny insult against Polk, mainly because of the people at that forum and not because I think they are not good products. I also usually call Samsung as Samdung, just a joke.
The Onkyo 805 was actually a receiver that I recommended to many several years ago because I thought it was the best bang for the buck in its price range. With decent current and fairly strong into 4 ohms for a receiver and the Reon chip it was a best buy. The only frequent slam on this unit as most Onkyo's was that it ran quite hot. However, I misinterpreted your comments above and thought you were implying that the 150 watt 805 was actually more powerful than the 125 watt UPA-5. The way they are rated by Onkyo and Emo is very different.
We can argue all day about which receiver is the best buy but there is little doubt in anyone's mind that these separates are on a higher plane altogether both in the amp and pre-pro.
Your English is so good I never thought you were a native French speaker (you don't show Quebec). No problem at this forum. We have many members from overseas and several very nice members here that have some dyslexia and past traumatic brain that effects their spelling accuracy. No problem, they are great people, its what they say and not a few English errors that count.
;D

And by the way, I just read one of your prior post responding to one of mine. I really do appreciate all your nice comments too. Very cool indeed. * And just a very tiny small correction from that ditto previous post of yours: you mentioned the Reon chip from the Onkyo 805. Well, you probably know that the Reon chip does not start prior to the 875 model, that's all. I just tought of accuracy here, and don't mean to be a jerk. ** Also thank you for you saying that my French is good enough to be understood, that makes me feel more confident; until it gets too complex on technicals aspects from our dear hobby. ...But I thing I should do just fine. I'm certainly trying my very best at it. But you will still find the odd typographical error, and or grammatical fault, and some more (verb's tense, word's order...). *** Most of my edits though are from typo in general. Have a great day sir, Bob

That picture above is the result of being finally retired and having too much time on your hands. Thanks for the correction on the Onkyo chip, I have trouble keeping all of their models straight. ;D

Brand new member here!
Like many, I happened upon Emotiva while researching new AVR's for my HT. This thread is very pertinent to me as I too came to the conclusion that these Emo separates are an attractive alternative to a "mid-level AVR."
I'm currently marking time with my 9-year old Denon AVR-1800 and Pioneer DVD/SACD/DVD-A player through Def Tech Mythos speakers.
As it happens, I was (still am, I suppose) looking very seriously at the Onkyo TX-SR876 and Pioneer Elite SC-25 (I'm surprised nobody has mentioned the Pioneer). I finally had a chance to audition the Pioneer Elite the other day vs. the Onkyo TX-NR3007 (the 876 is online only at this point). I've got to say, I haven't listened to separates in a long time, but that Pioneer sounded fantastic. And next to the Pioneer, the Onkyo sounded like cardboard.
The big appeal of the 876 for me would be the top-of-the-line Reon upscaling, ISF calibration for each nput, and Audyssey MultiEQ XT - you just can't touch those features for less than $2K in an AVR today. After listening though, the Onkyo definitely didn't sound as musical as the Pioneer - tempting as those features are to me.
I really like that Pioneer, but I love the idea of owning separates, and the Emo's look very promising. So for me, it's either buy the Pioneer online for about $800 ($1000 on EBay minus $200 Paypal Bing cashback balance), or wait until April for my name to come up on the UMC-1 pre-order list. I'm in no hurry, so I'm going to wait and decide.
Anyone here have an opinion on the Pioneer ICEPower Class D sound? I can't listen to the Emo amps, so how do their amps sound?
