Last Tuesday I was in Nashville and stopped by Emotiva in Franklin. Dann demoed all their toys for me. What a great company. I purchased a 6.3 for a center channel a pair of 8.3's for the right and left mains, and a XPA-3 for power. I was on travel the rest of the week and didn't get to play until yesterday. I have 2 AV123 MFW-15 subs. Well I started with no adjustments. After a couple of hours I rebalanced and brought the sub crossover point from 80Hz down to 40Hz. All I can say is wow. This really lit up the LFE effects. I like my sound loud but I will tell you if you can listen at low volume levels and hear full dynamic range you have a great sound system. Well that's where I am. Here is the question, after I get 100 hours on these guys should I try a lower crossover or is 40 hz going to be the sweet spot.
Oh, BTW, I got on the pre-order list for the UMC-1 last night. I will retire the old faithful Rotel.
This gear is competitive with any stuff out there. I am blown away with the fit, finish, and quality of manufacturing.

whatever sounds best to you my man. a 40hz crossover seems kind of low to me to be honest, but it doesnt really matter what i think, its about what sounds the best to you in your room.
Welcome to the forum!!!

Its nice to hear your positive comments about the Emotiva speakers, I have been toying with the idea of make a switch to the 8.3, 6.3 ERD combination.
I thought I read that the Emotiva's were really meant to x-over at 80hz... did I misunderstand this? Going down to 40hz is a pretty big difference, but it sound like you are saying they are capable.

Actually, you really wouldn't want to cross the 8.3 at 80 Hz. Their Frequency response: 45hz-20Khz +/-2db and still have usable output down to the low 30's. If it were my system, I would have started by setting the xovers at 50 Hz. If I wasn't totally thrilled at 50 then I would play with alternate settings a few Hz at a time. The room's acoustical properties have to be taken into consideration, but considering the test response is 45-20K, I would think the xover would be within 40-60 Hz. Don't be afraid to tweak the settings and see what works best in your listening room.

For my room, my speaker position, my seating position, 40Hz is the right answer. I do want to get a tone disk and plot the FR. But, not today. The sound is light, natural, yet powerful and "Big sounding".
I continue to be amazed by the price point, and the sound.
Very Very happy!
