Actually looking at the rear view I did not see a high-level input.
If you wire in parallel with the main speakers you would need to bypass the on-board amp and botch it in directly.

I am very curious how these will compare to the SVS PB-10/12 NSD

For my part, I think the concept of an entry-level Ultra series of speakers and subs in a wood-grain veneer makes a lot of sense. It's an affordable finish that should contribute to a high performance-per-dollar ratio for a low absolute price, and a clear differentiation from the current ER speakers & forthcoming ER subs. It's not what I'd call sexy, but not ugly, either.
I would also like to see more pictures - more variations of lighting, angle, and distance to give us a better feel for this product. Nothing wrong with your efforts to date, Dann, we just want more!

Hi, all. Noob here. So maybe this should go in the Stupid Questions bin, but here it is anyway - how do we hook up the Ultra Sub from some gadget without a dedicated lf/sub output? Is there going to be some sort of crossover we can attach it to? Any variable preamp output should work. The sub's built-in crossover will allow you to adjust the sub's performance for your system, but you will need to allow your main speakers to roll off on their own or get an outboard crossover.

Btw, I stopped by Emo and took a look at the new Ultra Sub this week and the Veneer looks much better in person than in the pictures. IMO it does not look cheap in person, the quality is as good as I've seen on any Veneered speakers with a semi-flat black finish. Anxious to see what the Cherry finish will look like. The only thing that I didn't like about the sub was the sharp corners(I have kids) so hopefully they will change this on the production models. My def tech sub which is also black veneer has corners that are not near as sharp as it has two 45 degree angles instead of the 90 degree to make the upper left and right corners. Also, the sub sounded great. I noticed no distortion, boominess, etc. . . just nice clean tight bass.

Wow this looks like a incredible value for money! For all of you complaining that it looks cheap.. its a $399/$599 sub. I don't know of any other sub that can match these specs for that amount. Heck i don't even think you could build one for cheaper... On paper it looks great I'm actually thinking about picking one up for the backup system im building and this is coming from a guy that has all B&W 800 series speakers. Great job guys! Keep up the good work. Lots of features at this price point. Now on your X-series gloss black has gotta be a must! I need more umph as my ASW855 sucks for movies.

dan87951 - have you seen what the market has done lately. Many different companies have come out with comparable subs as far as specs and price lately. The big question is the sound. How these compare is yet to be known. Knowing Emo, we know they will sound great! The Ultra subs do seem to have a big advantage for the people who are running very small speakers and need to cross above 100hz. I want some comparisons to be made by somebody who has had experience with many different subs as soon as these come out as I might be looking for a small sub for this summer. Or better yet, somebody want to compare the Ultras, TCA's new subs, eD's small sealed subs, ML Dynamo? I don't think I've ever gotten this excited about a downgrade in my system. At home I have a couple custom eD dual 15" subs powered by an EP2500, but these little guys(can I call them little?) really are getting me thinking. This summer I'll be away from my eDs and need a smaller sub to fill the void, so thankfully there are many good new options on the market.

Dan87591,
Wow, You are not pleased with an 855 on movies, just curious but where do you feel it's lacking? I have heard these beasts and found them to be pretty amazing and they can go a good 10 Hz lower than my two ASW2500's.
Judging from Dann's comments and the listed specs, it appears the first U series subs are tighter and thus probably better suited to music and movies, with the exception of the floor busting low stuff. Sealed subs, long throw speaker and decent sized amps. If you want to improve upon the 855, I'm guessing you should wait for the bigger subs.
I have two ASW2500's and am very happy with them for movies, although I admittedly give up the absolute lowest bass for a smaller profile. Just curious what you think is lacking. I too am a fan of the Nautilus gear.

The 855 is a great music sub! It blends perfectly with my speakers. However in bass sensative movies it simply does not have the output you can feel. I actually built a 15" Titanic sub with a small 300watt bash amp and it absolutely murders the 855 in terms of output and bass you can feel. However the dayton sub i built isn't so musical (probably because of the large box design I made and tuned so low). The wife acceptance factor on my home grown isn't all that great so I have slowly been looking for a replacement. For the money B&W just doesn't make all that great of a HT sub in my opinion.
I'am waitig to see what the X series will bring but for the secondary system upstairs these seem to fit the budget nicely. I never stated I plan on using the ultra series to replace by 855 or dayton. That would be obsurd.

dan87951,
OK, everyhting you wrote makes sense to me and is a clear picture of your opinion. Thanks. Many people seem to really love the ported big box, super deep monster subs you can either build or buy. Everytime I've heard one of these things at a friends house or retail high end store, I've always "felt" that very low bass but not really enjoyed it as much. It just always seemed to be "loose" sounding and slow.
I think B&W has pretty much taken the route that if they can't get low distortion un-colored sound out of their subs, they just won't design it in and try. I guess, there philisophy is seamless musicality or nothing at all. So, the 855 goes very, very low but not mind numbingly loud. So, your idea of doing something different for that "floor cracking" bass I mentioned makes sense. I'm still a bit surprised a sub that costs what the 855 dissapoints but , B&W isn't really a world leader in movie subs and of course, you/I pay quite a lot for the dealer network/reputation/pedigree of the brand. (I make no assumption that B&W's are worth the cost of entry - for me, they are - for others, probably not)
Many people on this site have auditioned far more subs than I but my take is the big challenge going forward for sub makers is to be both musical and deep Hz capable in a box somewhat smaller than a large fridge.
Finally, note your Bash amp is probably quite similar to the design going in to these new Emotiva's. If you get these new Emotiva's for your other listening area, it'll be interesting to get your review/comparison. My ASW2500's have 700 Watt plus Bash's in them. I'm a big fan!!

Just wondering what the status of the Ultra Subs is (specifically the 10)?
Are they still targeted for shipping later this month?
Any feel for how much shipping an Ultra-10 to Calgary in Canada might be?
I'm looking for a small (less than 1 ft cube), musical sub for a 2.1 system right now, and this sounds like it might fit the bill...

I should have the product pages up in the next week. No idea about the shipping yet, other than they are lighter than the amps, in general. We are upgrading our shopping cart to FedEx live shipping later this month as well, and folk sfrom all over the world will be able to get exact shipping costs and order online.

That should save both sides a lot of time and hassle. Can they do the "FedEx Monday discount" as part of the online quote too?

Last time I got stuff shipped, if I elected to wait until the next Monday, there was a reduction in the cost and that's what I did.
This was shipping booked with FedEx by Emotiva. It may only work for Ireland, no idea - prices to here are high.

I sure hope the Ultra-10 goes lower than 35z at -3dB's! (Which is what that Aperion is specified at).

I love the look of the Aperion Bravus too and wow for that price a guy could pick up two of them. Yeah I wish the Emotiva sub looked more like that for sure
