They are looking for more info on speakers. There are new towers coming out that will have the veneer finish like the sub.

Are you saying that because: They are on sale and I would save $400 if I do it all now (including the SS-6). Or because "who knows" how long it might be before the new ones materialize?

I just found Dann's somewhat new post about the Ultras... definitely sounds like I want the current ones.

The reference series is the top of the line with the beautiful driver and enclosure quality, etc. The new line looks great performance wise at least in the high end but will be more utilitarian in the enclosures. I would jump on the holiday sale prices. ;D

FWIW, I bought a pair of the 8.3 towers a couple of weeks ago and have been astounded by just how good they sound. @ $750 a piece they are absolutely a steal. Couple them with enough power and you will be blown away.
As a note IMHO, about 300 WPC is the minimum. I am sure there are those who will argue this but I have run everything from SET 5wpc tube amps to 500 wpc class d amps. For a long time I didn't understand why anyone would want more than 100wpc. Well high power makes a big difference. You know you have adequate amplification when you can run the system at reference levels (like at a concert) without clipping and more importantly when your frequency response and dynamic range is the same @ 75db as it was at 100db. This last part is where the power makes a real difference. Now, to achieve this low volume "flatness" requires well designed speakers as well as lots of power. The 8.3's fit the bill here.

So my MPS-1 is just going to barely run these adequately (300 WPC @ 4ohms) ??

The UPA-2 tapped out at a certain volume level, yes...ha.

The UPA-2 tapped out at a certain volume level, yes...ha. By that I assume that you mean the amp started to "sweat" before the speakers started having any difficulties keeping up. From reading the specs, I would assume that the ERT-8.3s were meant to pair up with a set of XPA-1s. Huge speakers with huge amps.
