Hello all,
I hope you all had happy holidays. This is my first comment, although I have been lurking on the boards for many months.
I have two usher 601 speakers with an usher center speaker in my dedicated man cave. I was using a Yamaha RVS-2200 receiver and a old Kenwood M-2 amp. The sound was so-so, and I knew that I could do better, especially with a new amp.
In order to receive WAF (to get the XPA-5), I sold an old Fender Jazzmaster guitar that I hadn't played in years. I received the XPA-5 last week, and it is a monster, both in power and weight. My father helped me move it into my equipment rack, and them I spent the next few hours hooking up the unit.
I was initially disturbed, because I could not get the center channel to work. Now comes the helpful hint - make sure all of the balanced/unbalanced switches are set correctly. This was the issue with the center channel. Once corrected, the channel works fine. I know I am confessing my stupidity, but it may save others momentary grief.
Now the good part - this amp is fantastic. It has improved the sound quality of all of my speakers. The improvements in clarity and presence is remarkable.
I want to thank all of the posters on this forum. It has allowed me to make an informed decision. Also, thanks to the Emotiva staff for providing such a quality product. I am now waiting for the release of the UMC-1 (I am on the pre-order list, waiting patiently).
Happy New Year.

Welcome to the Emo family! Glad you're enjoying your new amp. Thanks for the tip. Sometimes it's the small things that do the "gotcha".
