I say Minivee or Minivee 10 (if you can find it cheap enough).
Impact Mini might also work, but it can be a little boomy at times.

My Monitor Audio ASW100 would fit the bill I think - not sure how cheap the latest version is though.

Well I bought the Velodyne Impact Mini this morning on buy.com for $195.00 and free shipping. We'll see how it performs. If it's not up to snuff, we'll send it back........

Saturday Audio has some of the Monitor Audio ASW100 for $219.
I was looking into buying a Velo Impact Mini from buy.com as well, but I'm a little hesitant since I've read a few owners' comments about it being a little boomy.
I currently have an Aperion S8-APR, which is nice and punchy, but still can't hang with the rapid double bass in metal as much as I'd like. I certainly don't want to downgrade in SQ.
Maybe the Velodyne VMS-8 is a better option.

BTW, here's a what a Velo rep had to say at AVS about the VMS-8 and MiniVee:
"Hi, The VMS-8 is the same as the MiniVee. It's the MiniVee with a different name. Thanks, Curt (928) 858-4430 or curt@velodyne.com"

I have bookshelf monitors that play down to 40 hz (and they do) but a low volumes the bottom can go missing. So I'm going to use these to "fill the void" at low listening levels...... That's the plan anyway.....

That's the plan anyway..... Right... Generally it's been well reviewed. But in my case, it might be a lateral move in terms of SQ and a downgrade in output going to the Impact Mini from the Aperion S8-APR I have now. I was also discussing the VMS-8 since it was mentioned earlier in the thread, and it might be a SQ upgrade for me. You can get a VMS-8 which as far as I can tell is identical as a Mini-Vee. They are selling for less than the Mini-Vee. Doug And one of Velo's reps confirmed the VMS-8 and MiniVee are the same sub.

Let us know how that one works. I've seen it on line and always wondered how good it was. At that price, it's certainly worth a shot.

If that velodyne doesn't end up being what you are looking for, you may want to take a listen to the Polk Audio DSW MicroPRO 2000, or even the micro pro 1000, which is identical except for the room equalization feature that the 2000 has. I bought one a few weeks ago for my bedroom and space was a consideration there as well, just as for you. It has an 8 inch forward firing woofer and a downfiring rectangular passive radiator, pretty much the same configuration as the velodyne you ordered. It does go a bit deeper though with a response to 22hz and a -3db point of 27 hz. It uses a very powerful 1200 watt RMS digital BASH amp and a heavy magnet structure. I use mine with magnepans and needed a sub that could keep up with them. It looks pretty snazzy too with a gloss black cabinet in the 2000. I saw the 2000 at frys in Chicago last saturday for $449.00. The 1000 would be even less.

I'm going to run it wirelessly too with that Subcast product as it will be upstairs and my system is in my basement. I certainly don't expect it to perform like my Velo F1500. That thing rattles the booze bottles off the shelves behind my bar!!

Strindl, I am also looking for a pair of subs for my MMGs. How do the Polks sound? Is it tight bass or boomy? Do they keep up with all kinds of music? Do they blend in well with the MMGs. Thanks for your input.

Thanks for your input. John They do quite nicely blending with the MMG's. I don't have them in a large room so ultimate SPL's is not a problem. My main concern with a sub for the magnepans was to not give up bass quality for bass quantity. The Micro 2000 works nicely in that regard. I think it has to do with the 1200 watt RMS amp that is a part of it along with a massive magnet structure and very stff suspension on the driver. It doesn't sound boomy at all..which happens with drivers that are not well controlled and keep moving after the signal has stopped.
