Rented the Blu-ray from RedBox. Had considered buying the UHD Blu-ray but glad I rented instead. The Dolby Atmos track was solid but active mainly in the bed channels. Video is 2.39:1 aspect ratio, had hoped for an IMAX presentation. Mostly darker scenes but if your panel has been ISF calibrated, the darker scenes will have better definition. I’m sure the uhd Blu-ray with Dolby Vision or HDR10 would’ve been an improvement, though I don’t think the desert brown settings would’ve been much better. How did the story compare to the original which I think was very good.

I'm interested in the seeing the sequel, part 2 of this movie.

Comments on "Don't Look Up" (spoilers...)
The screenwriter says this isn't about a comet - it's about global warming. But it IS interesting (despite the foregone conclusion ending).
The government, in the film, is FAR more interested in listening to financial and political interests than it is in responding to scientific facts. The government is also far more interested in its ratings than it is the truth, and is capable and willing of spinning WILD lies so that the self-deluding public can buy into comforting alternate realities than in truth itself. In the end, though, the majority find that they've been deluded, and respond with rage against the government, the media, and each other. The Uber-rich, of course, have created a life-raft that will allow them to escape the disaster they've created (but could have stopped). In a final humorous twist, their starship finds and delivers them to a habitable planet, where they're all eaten by the local animals.
Although a depressing film, ultimately, the government shenanigans certainly seem prescient. I see echoes of concern in COVID response, in political alternative realities, and in treatment of scientists. YMMV.

What a powerful and bombastic audio track (hats off to Zimmer!) I could have kicked back and “ listened” to the movie a second time around with the monitor off! Well done….this is not a remake….this is Dune!

THE CORE I love DISASTER films 🎥 for the most part no matter HOW crappy they are…because they are implausible and brain dead entertainment. …And usually they are a staging area for some terrific remastered audio effects. Awesome Master Audio on this one! The original DVD release was nothing to write home about. But the Blu-ray is fantastic. I managed a perfect copy used that is a UK release. Right now you can’t buy this, but it’s going to be re-released at the end of March this year. A welcome addition to my disaster movie collection.

Not a movie, but I started watching season 1 of "Reacher" on Prime Video. Very good series thus far and definitely follows the same idea as the "Jack Reacher" movies.

Escape Room 2019. watched the sequel a few weeks back. watching “reversed” didn’t matter much….Both did a good job on keeping you on the edge….The sequel, perhaps even more so.

This film got real bad reviews…. What the hell do they know?! I think the film is a blast and I enjoy it as you do I'm drawn to some of the lines spoken (profound and intense) and how Klatu is able foil everything. Gort didn't do too much in this one but what he did do was awesome.

Watched the DVD over the OPPO. It took a sec to find the disc and my son asked "Why not just stream it?" I answered that I wanted to see what a disc looks like after all this time. We enjoyed the movie, never really noticed that it was not blu-ray, and thought it edged out a streaming version we peeked at afterwards. I am beginning to appreciate my shiny discs again.

Movies That use big contrast between high and low volume levels to scare the pants off you always get me. For sure this is one of them (especially on Blu-ray). They also “stole” some special effects gags from “The Grudge”. Still, worth a watch, though I wouldn’t add it to the collection.

... this afternoon, actually. We saw this RTF tour in 2008 when they played the Mann Music Center in Philadelphia along with Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. Sound in the Mann is always a crap shoot, and made more difficult by the local boys yelling "STANLEY" at the top of their lungs during every bass solo. Odd that I only found out about this Blu-ray this week ... and managed to find one. Listening at home was great. I listened to one song in Dolby 5.1 with the upmixer, then switched to DTS HD Master Audio as suggested in one review. My only complaint about the sound was the decision to fly all the cymbals overhead across the middle of the mix. I happen to be a drummer so I know what it sounds like in the middle of the kit, but I'd rather listen to music with the musicians in front of me. Otherwise .... great sound! And some BOTTOM in the music too ... not just Stanley, but Lenny's 35Hz big floor tom and Chick's keyboard drums that at times nudged 20Hz.

Yesterday afternoon, raining again (STILL) in Sydney, streamed the Eternals on Disney. The Atmos sound track was pretty good, plenty of sub action, visuals were stunning, enjoyed the cast, but the story line was what I would call "unnecessarily complex". How did I know what was going to happen with Icarus, Greek Mythology not withstanding. Cheers Gary

I was very impressed by the visuals... I found them both technically impressive and visually pleasing. (The Eternals is definitely right at the top of my list for "fun movies to watch".)
As far as the plot... you must keep in mind that this sort of movie is not intended to be great science fiction literature... It's a comic book, brought to life with live actors, and really nice 3D rendered CGI special effects. In the comic book a lot of that complicated story line would have been covered with one picture and two or three sentences of text in a bubble. When it becomes a movie they're sort of forced to fill in a lot of details that just plain weren't intended to be filled in. Therefore, to be blunt, it's going to sort of fall apart if you look too close...
So just don't look too close !!! . These movies are all designed to be cool to watch and visually stunning.
If you liked the Hobbit movies, and you want really solid stories, try actually READING The Lord of The Rings Trilogy... The movies are visually stunning... but they missed about three quarters of the actual story...
Or try Asimov's Foundation Trilogy...
Also remember that, in The Eternals, they're drawing on BOTH classical legends, AND tie-ins to other comic books. (Icarus in the "real legends" wasn't actually a superhero.... so their character was supposed to be the inspiration for the legends.)
I wouldn't say that the story line was "complex"... I would rather describe it as "convoluted"... As if the authors just felt obligated to add a few plot twists to avoid being accused of having "yet another heroes and villains shoot-em-up".
Just as they always include cameo appearances, hints, and tie-ins to other characters and movies in whatever "universe" their movie takes place.
(Check out the really understated tie-in to the Black Knight right near the end... ) I have an extensive background in both "real legends" and sci-fi... and I actually thought they tied it all together pretty well... at least compared to some of the other Marvel movies.
