Hi All, I thought I'd make a very informal video for you to show you how I use and interpret Emo-Q. This is not meant to be the "final" word on Emo-Q, I just thought I'd show you all how it works for the average guy in his room. We're working on a whole series of more formal and well produced tutorials for all of you, but in the interim, I took my trusty little Canon camcorder into the theater and did this little video for you. I hope this helps you to understand how the system works and to see for yourselves that it does indeed work. Remember, it is a tool, not a substitute for the your judgment and interpretation of its results. Here's the link: emotiva.com/emoq_video.shtmLet me know what you think... Heck, what am I saying? I KNOW you will!! Thanks, Big Dan

"One of our new ultra subs for a subwoofer" NICE! Bring 'em on. About the video. It's nice to see that a unit is working. However, my settings from Emo-Q are nothing like "in the ballpark". Every time it's run I get a different outcome. Never sets my fronts for anything other that 250Hz crossover. It gives distances that are 2-3 factors off. My sub was reported at 30 ft, in my 14 ft. wide room. For some it seems to be working OK, for others not so much. Here's a snap of my latest run: Notice the crossovers for the fronts and the trim for the sub. One suggestion would be to display only those EQ bands, determined by the crossover, that would actually affect the sound. That way we don't have to see, or worry about, those +10 bands that are getting cutoff anyway.

Looks good Dan, thanks for the video. Hopefully I'll be able to try it out this weekend. Assuming Fedex doesn't get stuck in the snow between TN and TX.
I am curious to see what it comes up with in my current temporary room.

Well done...though you look like a lost episode of "The Shadow". My results came out well after a few attempts. Glad to hear that future tweaking in the SW will be made available later.

Very nice! I am impressed! I have a Marantz AV8003 which is considered a nice processor but the way EmoQ works and how the UI is presented is brillant!

Looks like the eq tries to compensate for the crossover slope. Shouldn't the eq try and match the crossover slope?
Great vid btw.
On further thought I guess it is impossible to tell what it is doing without a before and after RTA comparison. Got any?

Dan, maybe I'm a little slow but could you explain again the microphone placement again so I can get a little bit better understanding. Thanks for the video.

Hey Dan,
It would have been helpful for you to show the room before you ran Emo-Q. I would have liked to see where your speakers were in relation to the couch and how you had the mic set up.
It's great to see that it ran so smoothly for you, but I get crazy, different results every time I run Emo-Q. I'm going to try re-doing the firmware update tonight, (not too excited about that since it took me about 10 tries to get it to work), just to see if maybe some of the changes didn't get made.

When Dan said, "It just works", I wanted to throw my remote at the TV.

If people didn't notice Lonnie also has a new video: EMO-Q 102Lonnie Vaughn discusses EMO-Q: What it is, and how it works. emotiva.com/emoq102.shtmExcellent work with both of these! Lonnie, just wanted to say that you used the prefect amount of tech terms to layperson speak which made your video informative and approachable. Bravo!!!

All of these UMC-1 videos need to be on a "Sticky" post so that people can find them easily later methinks.

On microphone placement......I use a photograhic tripod that I raise to where my ear level would be on the couch........and I place it just in front of my sitting position. The mic is on top of the tripod.

Just a quick comment here. Maybe it should choose the LAST -3dB point rather than the FIRST -3dB point to choose the highpass crossover. That way if there are frequency response differences between the drivers they will be over-ruled in favor of the actual frequency characteristics of the speakers. Then the EQ can fix the mismatch between the drivers. Isn't that kind f the point?

edit - The red shirt is pretty cool. Are those available to the general public? Haven't you seen any episodes of Star Trek: The Original Series?!?! You do NOT want to be in a red shirt unless your name is Scotty!

I think it would be cool if the UMC could create the frequency response graphs, that way we could see what its measuring. I guess we could extrapolate based on the EQ adjustments, but it would be cooler to see the actual FR.
Perhaps and enhancement?
Or new feature for the XMC.
