Salk is out of Oakland... which is opposite end of the state from GR (Metro Detroit)... which is where my wife is from originally... she might need to go visit some old friends soon

Lancity, I have heard the Axioms (M22 and M50) and the Emotiva ERM-1. I personally don't care for the Axiom line of speakers. The ERM-1 blew me away. Here's my review emotivalounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=gotopost&board=erm1&thread=3072&post=40574Considering this, if I were in your shoes and wanted to make a safe bet, I would go with the Emo speakers with the Ninja upgrades for all. I believe that the quality and SQ provided by Emotiva will be difficult to beat unless you're planning to spend several thousand more for your speakers. Auditioning speakers in dealer showrooms is pretty much useless since you really don't know what they will sound like in your room. The only way to audition speakers is to listen to them in your home for several days before you make a decision. This is also the reason that I would not purchase used speakers from individual sellers unless I am intimately familiar with that particular speaker.

If you audition the Salks, let us know what you think. They are on my shortlist. I plan to call Jim Salk and ask him if anyone in the Greater Nashville area has a pair that I might be able to audition but waiting as it may be next Spring before I can buy new speakers now since my son needs braces this year. I could buy a lot of speaker for what those costs. Hmmm. . . .

ntrain, I believe he was considering the 8.3 and the 6.3, not the 6.2s.

I like 6.2's without a doubt, especially if this is mostly for HT use, but if this is for significant amount of time for music as well then for about $400 shipped at a few specific online retailers your also looking at a set of KEF iQ30's............entry level KEF UniQ speaker is hard to beat for BOTH movies AND music.......the Kef's UniQ driver array and cabinet is a STEP UP over the 6.2's. $400 shipped from an authorized dealer? Really, not gray market? Send me a link.

ntrain, I believe he was considering the 8.3 and the 6.3, not the 6.2s. Actually, he mentioned a preference for the 6.2s over the 6.3s. Didn't see him mention the towers. But bear in mind he doesn't own either.

They are an authorized dealer, their stuff is A-stock/overstock from Kef USA directly. Most of their "open box" items are actually still factory fully sealed direct from Kef. I just picked up my XQ10's from them in a trade here with another member, was listed as an "open box" but was fully factory sealed, factory shipping staples intact.

If there is the opportunity I'd highly suggest checking out Angstrom speakers. I just checked and there is an American office (they are Canadian) so you can contact them and see if there is a dealer in your area (http://www.angstromloudspeakers.com/contact.php). I have the Modular 2's (plus center and surround) and couldn't be more pleased. In my search I've listened to B&W, Paradigm, ERM-1's, and ended up going back to Angstrom even though they were more than a quarter less ($600) than the B&W's and Paradigm's I listened too. You do need a sub though which eats into the price gap a little.

Another direction you should check out is Magnepan. You can buy a pair of MMG''s for about the same price as a pair of 6.2's. They are both high quality speakers but sound totally different.

Yep, maggie MMG's are another option, actually Kef and Magnepan speakers sound very similiar due to both haveing extremely flat linear midrange resonse. One reason why my house is loaded with products from both companies............

I think I've settled on emo speakers... probably going to wait to see what the 8.3 redesign looks like and get a few other components (such as.... xMC and a new sub) and maybe see if there is any chatter about another higher end line of emo speakers by the time I am ready to purchase. Thanks for all the great advice guys!
