Once I can sort through all the bugs, I can get to the actual SQ/PQ quality of the unit itself. Well I can give one comparison.......the 886 doesnt have an HDMI audio issue......

Can't see how if ntrain didn't make any changes to the cable box, why it shouldn't operate straight up. I had a situation with my Scientific Atlanta, where Dolby was not being passed through my system. I had it set for HDMI, but would only pass 2 channel through the HDMI. When I added an optical cable, and wired it to my processor, I went into the Cable settings, and switched the output to digital. I was then getting Dolby Digital playing through the processor. I got DD from the TV directly to the processor, only when I was receiving broadcast as opposed to cable signals.

OK, expect a long drawn out review..........Im going to try and hit every combo imaginable with this unit. So here is the first portion: CROSSTALK..........there is a significant amount going on. Im not sure if its the UMC-1 itself directly, or the UPA-7(Which had very low amounts when driven by my Adcom GCD-700 directly), or a combination of both. Im going to update my UPA-7 review to potentially reflect this. But anyway, for example, when I run the zone 2 output(my weight lifting room)with the cd player, the other 5 channels in my bedroom have significantly audible musci running through all the other 5 channels. Same vice versa when I run music through my bedroom HT, I hear significant music coming out of the speakers in the weight room and the other 3 channels in the bedroom........the Onkyo AVR's are 100% superior in the fact they have no audible crosstalk through any of the channels when using powered zone 2/the main channels and or a combination of the 2......."white noise" though is very low on the UMC-1 and its analog inputs are better in this respect. I'll be doing more in depth look on the crosstalk and see if I can isolate it to the amp and/or the UMC processor.........more to come later tonight........ do you get any bleed through when just using the 5 main speakers? For example, if you use the manual speaker level setting test tones for the main, surround and center speakers, does that test tone bleed through to other speakers? I think temporarily unhooking the zone two part may help to isolate the source.

My cable box passes Dolby digital just fine, some channels work, some dont at all, some do somethings when i switch back and forth............its frustrating........calling the cable company today see if they can show me how to get into the main menu(supposed to turn unit off then hit menu on the remote, but it wont let me in so Im not sure if the password protected it or?). I really like the unit for my needs, just want to get all the equipment to play nicely together.

Funny thing is I didnt notice any before when using the Adcom directly into it. Now its very noticeable. Dan said it may be a ground that failed in the amp...........he is going to try and reproduce the results tommarow for me see if they have the same issue with their display UPA-7 in the office.

Well the audio drop out has been fixed, an adjustment with the cable box solved the issue..............but now I am experiencing the UMC-1 having issues with locking up(where all the functions like volume, input selection, power on/off etc)every once in awhile where I have to shut the power off in the back and restart it...................

This has been reported in other units but I'm not sure what the ultimate fix (if any yet) was.

COncerning the UPA-7, still waiting to hear back from EMO, they were supposed to call yesterday.......Ill call them if I dont hear back by 11AM today.......
As for the UMC-1, the lockup and erratic display needs to be solved sooner than later. Had to rest the unit 4 times last night............hoping its defective too, or an issue with the firmware.

Maybe I missed it, but how is everything else? Like the sound quality. Does 2 channel sound good? DTS HD, True HD?

OK, expect a long drawn out review................ Man you can say that again! The umpires (moderators) are huddling together to see if there is anything in the forum rules about how long a thread starter can ramble on in a product review (how many pages) before he gets to "some meat and potatoes" to quote Neekos. I keep nodding off reading this thread. Seriously, nicely detailed and informative review and great troubleshooting. Very nice work Ntrain42. ;D BTW, no need to review the SS-6 center channel speaker stand. I pretty thoroughly covered that. ;D

OK, well I am assuming the "lock up" bug will be fixed in the upcoming firmware update along with some other bugs, so Im going to go ahead and post alot more thoughts on the processor in detail later today........Ive pretty much gone through all the inputs, surround modes, DAC/picture quality etc. etc........so expect a long winded post later this afternoon/evening.
