There may not be any info out there yet, but I thought I would ask........will the UMC-500 have balanced outputs as well as RCA?
Also, and more importantly for me.....will it have a knob volume control?
I've never liked push button volume controls even though you do use the remote most of the time.

Given that the pics are from what has to presume were a mid-stage sample, this raises some interesting questions:
* Will the three-prong power cord be replaced by adouble insulated two-prong type? * Have they added the Bluetooth option as appears on the UMC 200? That would be a curious step-down from the lower priced model. * Have they changed the front panel headphone jack to a a more standard 1/4" "'phone plug" that is more common with the larger headphones one might expect with a unit of this price? * I'm sure one will point me so a prior thread for this, but other than the addition of the balanced outputs and the deletion of the Bluetooth capability, what are the main differences to justify the price increase?
Of course, the obvious questions: When can we see the Owners Manual so that we can answer many of these queries ourselves and WHEN WILL IT SHIP? ("When it is ready" is really not a good answer since there are lots of great deals during the holiday season and one needs to know if this is worth waiting for if a good price on something else comes along.)

I certainly agree that we need details on this product. However, AFAIK, Emotiva has not confirmed that Bluetooth capability has been removed. If I were in the market for something now and a great deal came along, I'd jump on it.

Thanks for the pics! I'm going to have to make it to Emofest!
I'm definitely going to wait (and hope) that the pics are close to what the finished product will look like.

I think people are becoming more concerned with how fast an A/V processor can butter their toast than how it will sound. You can see this happening every day on the HT forums. I don't mean it as a jab at anyone in particular, but just go over to AVS for a while. If I wanted something that had all the bells and whistles. If separates made no difference in sound quality over a receiver, honestly, I'd just go to Best Buy and purchase a home theater in a box for $300. Sorry for the rant...

Too much concern for "things" like Bluetooth, and iCrap this, and iCrap that, or Pandora this, or an external 'dock' for something else - such that the sound quality becomes of second concern... I guess I'm just becoming a crabby old insane pink care bear...

One thing to note...the design and features may change from what we saw at emofest. But, I do suspect we will see the real thing within 2 months or so.

Mark I could be wrong, but I doubt it will come out around the same time frame as the XMC as it could eat into sales of the XMC with people wanting to save a little off the price tag and still get many of the XMC features.

They may have XLR outputs but AFAIK they are not fully balanced. The only ones that have fully balanced outputs are the XDA-2, XMC-1, ERC-1, ERC-2, XSP-1.

Now that all the Thanskgiving guests have left and gone home -- THERE is something to be thankful for! -- I finally had a chance to listen to the most recent podcast. Many mentions of the UMC 200 and a mention in passing on the XMC, but unless I was zoning out on triptophan from all the turkey, was there NO mention of the UMC 500?
Has anyone heard an update on final pricing, reservation lists, final specs and when it will ship? Again, with all the deals that will be out there between now and the end of the year on a wide variety of gear from almost every brand, the question becomes one of whether or not to wait or grab something nice that comes along. Reasonably happy to wait IF there is some assurance that this will pop in the near future. Too bad it isn't in the Holiday Sale at a pre-order price.
Anyone? Anything? Without going back to older posts or podcasts, does anyone recall when this was supposed to ship?

Sharkman,
The 500 may or may not eat into xmc sales...personally I think having it will expand their sales by giving a midpoint vs. The 200 and the x. Those who value even better sound and having tact will opt for the x. Recall...the 500 will not have tact.
So, I could see both both out within a month of each other.

2muchht...per my emofest notes, the umc200 was to be "end of the year" and 500 was to be "about Jan 2013". I take this to mean a couple months apart. But...don't forget...the emofest timing was NOT a firm commitment from emotiva. I suspect the next news we will here will be that it's shipping on "x" date....and no other info until then.

Just making sure. The new UMC series doesn't have any legacy (analog) videoinputs? And no video processing? Am I Right?

Mark It's a fair point, it does round out their line up nicely. But on the other hand, 1500 is over twice the price of their previous generations, the LMC and the UMC. Either way, it's coming and it looks pretty attractive.

It looks like the UMC-200 & 500 do not have an unbalanced output for the SUB only balanced. This is not good since my Tannoy TS2.10 sub only has unbalanced input. I wonder if Emotiva will offer a Balanced to unbalance converter to solve this little problem?

I see an RCA sub out on both units. For the UMC-200 its location is a bit unconventional; it is located towards the center of the preamp outputs.
