i just recieved my duet. Hooked it up with wifi, eerything hooked up and I'm getting music to my umc1. but with no volume at all. I ran the imput up 10dbs in the set up and the volume up to 80 and it is not loud at all. I'm thinking i don't have the duet configured right. can someone give me the values they have for the volume control, preamp voulme control, cross fade and the duration. I can use them as a starting point.
thanks marty

The duet remote has it's own volume control. The best bet is to put the duet remote volume at max, and use the UMC-1 volume to control things. How is the duet receiver hooked to the UMC-1? With analog RCA or with a digital cable, either toslink or coxial digital?
Using a digital out from the duet receiver will sound better.

and I have the crossfade in the duet set to none and the volume adjustment set to smart gain only. The others are not checked.

The volume control is front and center on the Duet remote...the two buttons below the scroll wheel that show little speakers on them with one having more soundwaves coming out than the other. Those are the up and down volume buttons. You get a bar readout on the screen. The DACS built into the duet receiver are not bad and they still sound decent...just not as good as the dacs in something like the UMC-1.

I have 2 Duets one for the whole house audio (analog) and one for the main system. I did a bunch of testing when I first got it and passing digital to the pre is the best IMO. A friend of mine goes into a tube DAC and it sounds great. This is the route I will be going some point in the future

Just wanted to say thanks again for all the help from the forum in getting my duet set up. Just love this setup. Everything at the touch of a button. I'm impressed with the sound out of this and the umc. Now for new speakers.

I've got a Squeezebox "classic" on the way. Does anyone know if it will output from both toslink and coax digital at the same time? How about analog and digital at the same time?

Don't know about Toslink and coax at the same time but simultaneous output of analog and digital is doubtful.

That would be a real bummer if true. I want to run the digital into my Integra processor and the analog into my USP1. Hopefully that will work out.

All outputs on the SB3 are active at all times. I believe the "Classic" is the same as the 3, but I don't know for certain.

I guess technically speaking it is an SB3. I bought it off Audiogon. I missed one that sold the same day for $150. Guy never replied to me, so I must have been last in line. The one I bought was listed at $215 plus paypal plus shipping. I offered $175 paypal'd and shipped and pointed out I can buy a new one on Amazon.com for $229 shipped. The seller accepted my offer. I really want the "Transporter" and there is one on Audiogon for $999 but that was a bit much right now for me. Maybe down the road.
