Can someone with some Magnepan speakers buy the new 10 subs and tell me how they sound with their magnepans and if they keep up. I was thinking of getting two of them for the MMGs but would really like to know what they sound like and how they blend with the Magnepans. I know someone will say, well just buy them and if you don't like them just return them, but I am not a fan of returning things. Thanks, John

For Magnepans I would seriously consider sealed subwoofers with relatively light drivers, low Q and servo control. That said there are many sealed designs that will probably work fine, but if you don't want to second guess yourself consider the above. To cloud the issue further a pair of Elemental Designs A3S-250s is $600.

I don't have Maggies, but my Ultra 10 shipped today. I'll let you know how it sounds.

I would check out either Rels or Rythmik Audio. I have heard a lot of subs with Magnepans over the years and in my system and other Magnepan systems these two are the top choices that I have. I own MG10s and 2.7s.

Guys, thanks for the replies and info. I was hoping to find something good without breaking the bank. The Rythmik stuff looks nice but still a little pricey. But I guess you need to spend the money if you want something good. I was hoping for two tens because I think the 12s will be a little too much for my little room. I do want two. I would like to run them in stereo. So two 12s under the MMGs, hmmmm. I could see stuff falling off the walls.
sr71 please let me know how they sound once you get them. I would really like to know.
Thanks, John

Will do. I'm just getting one for now, but my plan is also to run two.
My middling speakers (PSB Image T-45's) don't come near to touching your Magnepans, but they're pretty fast and detailed for their class and I doubt I could have found better or bigger sound for the money I paid for them ($400). So they should offer at least some idea of how well the sub can keep up with music, which dominates my listening habits by far; 99%.
I plan to offer a review of the sub once I get it (Friday) and play around with it this weekend, get it dialed in. Pics too.
Looking forward to it.

You are going to have quite a good time with your new subs this weekend. The first time I heard those little Ultra 10 subs it was hard to grasp the fact that all the good tight bass was coming from that little bitty box. Had there been any production units available during last year's Emofest, Emotiva would have sold them all that weekend. I know I would have bought one (or two) on the spot. Everyone in the speaker demo room was mesmerized by the Ultra 10 when they had the Sheffield Drum CD playing. Enjoy your weekend. If you don't already have that Sheffield Drum recording go out and get a copy before the sub arrives -- you won't be able to stop listening to that.
