Isn't Class G (theoretically, at least) inferior to Class A/B? I don't know of many (any) Consumer Audio brands who use Class G... D is efficient, B is rare, A/B is standard and A is supposed to be the best... Oops, the RPA and MPS are actually Class H. I agree that Class H seems to be rare. I had never heard of it until I found Emotiva. But I don't know about the inferior part. In my opinion, for music, the RPA is noticeably superior to the XPA-2... Mark

Have we seen a price for the XPR-2 yet? And there you see a potential for cost savings. A pair of XPA-1s are housed in two chassis, whereas an XPR-2 is in one. Mark. The projected price of the XPR-7 was mentioned in the 05/07/10 Webcast and was 1999$ and the other 2 (XPR-5&2) scaled down in price from that point. Presuming 1500-1600$. If I heard correct, the XPR-2 would have a 3KVA transformer, which indeed is more per channel than the 1.2KVA from the XPA-1 To compare to others: the Parasound Halo JC1 monoblock has a 1.9KVA transformer... I doubt this would be a significant improvement in SQ. XPA-1 is only 20% less per channel vs XPR-2. when you compare to the difference between UPA-1 and XPA-2: the 300VA UPA-1 is only 50%/ per channel vs the 1.2KVA XPA-2. Agreed that one chassis is cheaper, but surely, that's probably only about 100$?

Since they are referring to these amps as reference, top-of-the-line products, I was hoping for full seperation of channels, like the MPS-2 for example. Unfortunately both the transformer and the capacitors are shared by all channels - which means the channels mights still influence each other. Anyone have a MPS-2 for sale ? ;D Also, note that the XPR series is higher than the XPA casing, so this might mean it won't fit in your current AV rack

That's awesome. Wonder if they'll consider a 1k monoblock amp or 500w x 3.. hmmmmm

So there is no official price for an XPR-2 then? I too would also want to see the older analog dials like the Macs or the old Carver amps I use to lust over. I need to wait until next month to get my XPA-2 so hopefully it comes out before then so I can decide if I want to upgrade. It's been about 5 weeks since anyone has posted in this thread so hopefully there will be some new news.

I see amps up to 350Watts are recommended, and they are rather sensitive too. A pair of XPA-1 would have been slightly over the top IMO. XPR-2 way over!

I agree, once I started thinking logically and not that I want one because they are new I realized the XPA-2 is a perfect fit for me. It is just so hard to wit for it to arrive.

With EmoFest coming up and a few recent questions about the XPR series amplifiers, I thought I'd bump these two threads to the front.

Nobody needs more. The XPR-2 still has the power edge, it has the bigger engine. Who said anything about reduced wattage?

Like having 500 bhp and not being able to take a corner.

As for everyone else... I'm not sure that I'll need a XPR-2 (or any of the XPR series) but if someone would like to raise a little cash to go towards one I might be in the market for a XPA-2 very soon...

Hehe, if Krell has a 1000 Watt amp, why not Emotiva eh? The XPR-1 would be perfect for the Bowers & Wilkins 800D. Yummie!

These will be for real powered hungry speakers. ...And for people that don't have too many A/C power wall outlets in their rooms; like when using several mono blocks (5, 7, or even 9!). Ha, my front three speakers have a 96db sensitivity rating, but I still want these. Way overkill, but oh well. Mine have 105db sensitivity and I want them too Power aside, it's the better components and design of the amp that make a speaker shine. I may only need 400 peak watts of power, but that doesn't mean I want the amp straining on that last watt!
