I was wondering how a subwoofer would do directly behind the listening position. Having the subwoofer so closely located might have some advantages and disadvantages and I would like to hear people's impressions. Better tactile response, not being able to locate it, boominess.
Of course I will try this with my own sub when i get a chance to do so.

Localization is virtually nonexistent, as Wideawake can attest. tactile response is off the hook when watching movies. Make sure you set the distance parameter in your processor to zero!!

The only problem is i'm going to run three subs. Two in the front near the corners ten feet away and one behind the couch. I can invest in a delay switch but it seems like more money than its worth (suggestions?). So i cannot really set the delay to zero.

I assume each sub is powered by it's own plate amps? If so, just make sure the gains are adjusted so that the one behind the couch blends in with the 2 others and does not overpower them. What are you using for a processor or pre amp?

The two Hsu's in the front are gonna be run by an outboard amp and the SVS cylinder sub is gonna be run by its own plate amp. Also, I'm using the UMC-1 as a pre/pro. Of course i'll gain match the two sets of subs. I'm just afraid the 9ms difference int he arrival times might be noticeable. But only experience will tell in that case.
How low did you set your XO so the sub wouldn't be noticeable?

Can you assign 0ms for the sub behind the couch?
