I'm using XPA-5, UMC-1, planning to get either 1 or 2 Ultra 12" subs to replace my ageing 'Shu Research'. My listening room is 11x18 ft. A friend advise to get 2 subs but like to hear from some of u out there who have already using 2.

You should ask your friend behind his reasoning for 2 subs. Everyone has different reasons. For me, its for more output to fill my room. For others, it is to level out the frequency response in their room. I am all for 2 subs. It just depends on what your needs are.

I just added two subs (Ultra 12's) to my setup.. One reason for two is to give me more flexibilty for leveling out freq as others have stated.. The other reason was to run each sub at lower volume.. I feel this should yield a faster tighter response with a bit more musicality.. I have only had them a few days though so I cannot comment yet...
Once I move to the basement with my gear I will also need two to get enough fill.. My room is 24 x 19ft

I will offer this a bit early. The weight is just fine and I have it squared to a vertical and horizontal mark on the hardwood floor and it does not move. How in the world someone would state that they had the box shaking all over is beyond me. I have the volume at about 10:00 on the dial not even half way and it is plenty loud! It needs to be tamed a bit and I do not have the bass management features of the UMC or any other AVR so I did order the BFD box and cables. So it will take a while to get it all setup and reported.

I have often wondered what the 2-12" would compare to mine SVS PC-plus. I really don't have room for 2 subs(and I'm sure it wouldn't get WAF either), but I would think the 2 would have a lot more output than my svs....

Less localization and, higher output without distortion. You can always stack subs. Yes the more the merrier IMO. I may add two more for a total of 4 of the same sub.

If smoothing frequency response is your aim, then multiple subs is the way to.
I read a white paper that noted that 4 subs, (1 in the middle of each wall of the room) was optimal, but that 2 subs, diagonally across the room from each other was almost as good. So that's what I have, 2 subs that are across the room and diagonally from each other. Works for me.

I'm currently using a vintage 'Shu Research' down firing 12" sub, can I get another sub say Ultra 12" to complement my system?
