What size room is everyone using there new Emotiva subwoofers in?
My situation is I've got a 6000 ft^3 great room right now that is horrible for HT. I've made it work though and it sounds good now.
I'm currently using a MFW-15 av123 and it slams. The thing is though I have the gain set only to like 1.5 out of 8 I think. My onkyo 805 Multeq XT sets the sub trim to -4. This is confirmed with my Radioshack "Realistic" SPL meter.
I feel like I'm not really using it and would like the size of the SUB-12 and if I have to set the gain at 1/2; so be it.
Also, I've never heard a sealed sub for HT but always like them better in car audio. So that intrigues me especially with emotiva return policy.
One last thing; are sealed subs more picky about location than their ported counterparts or about the same?
Appreciate any help. ;D
Setup:
Onkyo SR805 Polk RTI10, CSI3, FXI3 av123 MFW-15

This thing rocks: Ultra 12
Copied what I wrote on AVS:
Got mine today about an hour ago, it's the 12" version...
I've had significance experience with the following subs:
Velodyne CT-120 Polk PSW505 Elemental Designs A2-300 AV123 MFW-15
Room: Horrible; ceramic tile, cathedral ceiling 12ft, living/kitchen/dining/halls; at least 6000 ft^3
Setup: Onkyo 805 Polk RTI10, CSI3, FXI3
I placed the sub in the front because I'm extremely picky about locating the subwoofer in the setup. This is on an interior wall about 10 ft wide with entry ways on both sides; so not a corner in sight. I have it placed between the TV and left speaker.
This is my first sealed subwoofer in the home theater world and simply put after about an hour with it I don't think I'll buy another ported subwoofer.
The difference to me is you hear the subwoofer much less sealed but feel it more so; a more tactile experience. Don't get me wrong my 15 make's you feel it in the couch; but it also tells you right where it's at, not to mention it's the size of a mini fridge.
I'd say for any average size living room one 12 would be enough; I'd like to add another but am really in no hurry and will enjoy one no problem. It reminds me most of the A2-300 but in a much smaller package; and I believe it has a much more snappy punch to it.
Any questions about it; just ask...
