I have been running my UPA-5 for a couple of days and the channels that are working barely get warm.
This makes me wonder if something might be wrong with my XPA-2. It gets pretty darn hot playing the same speakers at the same volume.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

Take a good look at the product pages for each amp and pay particular attention to the Number of Output Devices per channel. You will notice that the XPA-2 has 24 highout devices divided between 2 channels, 12 per channel. The UPA-5 only has 4 output devices per channel. In addition to running triple the output per channel, the XPA-2 is designed to run at a higher bias level giving yet more energy (heat) that needs to be dissapated. Then take a look at the output level of the transformers of the two amps... 1200VA for the XPA-2 versus only 600VA for the UPA-5.

Thanks.
I knew the XPA had bigger and badder components. I just didn't realize they used extra energy even if they were not delivering more power!
