Can someone explain to me why the PMA series amps are so much more expensive? I already have an XPA-5, it would be cheaper to buy 2 UPA-1's to get to 7 channels at 200w/c @ 8ohms.
Why is the PMA so much more expensive? I see that the PMA is class H and the XPA is class, well, I don't know.
Can someone help me justify why the PMA should be purchased in the future?

I could be completely wrong here, but isn't this new stuff coming from emo, aimed for custom installers and can only be bought from dealers? If so, then I suppose dealer markup would be one of the biggest reasons. I haven't heard the specifics on their builds, but I would think there were also some more expensive parts as well. The design and build quality also IMO, looks like it might be of higher quality. That's just speculation though. Just those things alone(especially dealer markup) could significantly raise the price.

I was under the impression that us regular guys would be able to purchase this straight from Emo as well. I would be unhappy if they offered a higher quality amp only to installers. I am definitely getting a bad feeling about all this Emo Pro stuff.

Hey, the line up they offer internet direct is pretty sweet and you are saving multiple hundreds off retail every time you opt for Emotiva, plus you get a 5 year transferable warranty and discounts a few times a year.
Personally I'm fine with them offering a retail line for installers. If a line isn't available online out of all of the lines that are, it's not that big of a deal, is it? I'd love them to have continued success and growth which would hopefully translate into more and better products online.

Like you guys, I love the internet direct where we save a lot of money compared to other brands.
One thing that may be a bummer is if this retail line does too well. Then they would have no reason to offer products at current prices. The margin would be much higher - if emo goes mainstream it could be bye bye to internet direct.

Are you kidding bye bye internet direct ? why do you think there doing a pro line now because there internet direct wasen`t successful enough , I think there internet direct is there crowning achievement as far as sales are concerned. Emotiva is not going to abandon the very people that made them so successful

It seems to me, that they will always make the most profit from ID, considering the volume of sales. The Pro line will just help them get more recognized among the big hitters in the game, and maybe gain more respect with skeptics. It's amazing what high prices do to the perceived level quality. People see high prices, and they automatically think quality.

Is everyone forgetting the XPR-7 amp? We are not going to miss out on a premium amp, it will be available to Internet direct customers.

It's already been stated that we can buy all the pro stuff, it's not just for installers, it's more aimed at them.

I don't want this thread to get too far off track.
Can someone explain what the MAIN differences are between the two amps? I like the look of the pro stuff, the XPR is going to be too much power for my speakers. Thanks.

I can't think of a good reason unless you really really like how it looks. I do not believe there is a lot of detail yet on them but like someone said, I'd be looking at the XPR-7 if you want more power and/or want a 7 channel amp upgrade. Of course, I'm extremely happy with the XPA-5 and do not see any reason to change my amps unless I get some godly inefficient speakers in the future.
