I've tried some different amps on my new custom made speakers and am not totally satisfied with the sound.
My favorite so far has been a sunfire amp wired on the voltage side, the current side is way to soft and tubey for me.
Do you think the XPA-1 might be worth a try? I liked the Sunfire on my top end but it didn't have the bass control and slam I like on the bottom.
I'm currently trying a Crown K2 but its too forward sounding on top end, but has great bass slam and control that I like.
Anyone who has heard the XPA-1, please give me your thoughts on its "Sound"?
Thoughts?
regards, Bill

I have a set of XPA-1's connected to my B&W 803D's and they sound absolutely wonderful! I couldn't be happier! The detail and bass response it breathtaking! I can't wait until the XMC comes out so I can utilize the balanced inputs which improve sound even more. Simply put, I had a ridiculously priced Classe power amp ($7k new) and sold it the moment I hooked up the XPA-1's. That should speak volumes about this amplifier. I honestly couldn't hear the difference between the two amps, so I sold the class and pocketed the cash for even more upgrades. Actually the Emotiva had a little better bass response..

Wow! That sounds like I need to try them.
Any idea why they are only $829 right now, are they being discontinued?
Being replaced by something else?

I heard the front panel display has signal strength meter and 2 clipping lights at the far right side that are red.
1 is 10% down and other is 5% down distortion?
Is this correct?

Just revived my 2 XPA-1's this past Wednesday to add to my XPA-5 for 2 channel lessening, It's hard to believe the power, clarity and depth they added my system. When I set up them I removed my Velodyne 10 in. Sub to make room for the amps (they wound up on the floor where the sub was) and with the power it added to the low end of my speakers it will most likely not be add it back. I had a house full of people over last night and everybody was very impressed, no matter how carried away we got with the volume no one could hear any distortion. I love these amps and will have them for a very long time. They are not being discontinued.
