Hi happy Emotiva owner needs advice. A friend of mine was unhappy with the amp stage of his receiver so I wholeheartedly recommended the XPA-5 as I have one as well and love it. He hooked it up to a KH 3600 and was in sonic bliss... Until he changed input channel on the HK. He can listen to his ipod all day no problem Change to cable tv and the XPA 5 goes into protection. Restart the amp and all is well unless he changes channel on his cable box or changes to another input. Once the channel has changed, restart the amp and all is good at any volume, change to ANY channel on the HK and the amp goes into protection. We tried different inputs and got the same issue. Checked all cables all ok I suggested he call in to support, but I feel responsible as I made the recommendation, so I am wondering if anyone has any ideas? Thank you for your time Knights

I have a HK 240 and i was testing to see if the 12v swith would work with the XPA2. It did not work and i forgot to remove the 3.5mm cable
The XPA-2 goes into protection mode when " i have the remote switch plugged into the 12v power on switch", This only happens when i try adjusting the Subwoofer within the HK settings & Remote.
once i unplugged the 3.5mm switch cable all was fine. (auto power on does not work for me anyways/ not compatible).
I was in the process of finishing up some DIY speakers, and this happened to me, i was like mannnn what did i wireup wrong in the crossover...lol then i put 2&2 together.
edit: basically there is a short / ground issue (loop) somewhere

Thanks for your reply. We only connected the bare minimum in the end to see if that helped. No trigger no sub ,etc. Only front speakers hooked up, tried different channels in the amp, etc Regards Knights (P.S I will test my DIY speakers with my receiver first before I risk my XPA-5 )

Here's a quick suggestion; swap amps wit your friend. If the amp goes into protect mode on your system the fault is wit the amp. If your amp starts going into protect mode on his system then its his receiver.

I ran my HK 3600 with an XPA-3 with no issues whatsoever. I know it's not an XPA-5, but it should work the same way.

Thanks It is good to know the combo works. I think I would rather take over my receiver to try it with his amp rather than risk my amp. It is a good suggestion, but I am hoping to avoid pulling my system apart. The other difficulty is that we are in Canada and we are hoping to avoid having to ship the amp back, hoping it is the receiver at fault.. Hopefully we will have a easy resolution Thanks Knights

Thanks for all who replied but the problem has been solved! Was it the amp? No Was it the receiver? No Was it the cable box? No Was it the wiring? uhmm not quite. It was a loose bi wiring jumper on the speaker!! Checked the wire did not think of the jumper. All is well. Thanks again Knights

Knights, I knew it could not be my cherished XPA-5 that was causing your problem. I figured you'd find something that was haywire. Was a little worried you might start drinking too much while troubleshooting. Glad you found it. ;D

Oh my, I love anything Pyramid makes. That's some damn fine beer.
Ha, I thought my XPA-5 was busted when I got it today. The front left, and left surround weren't working! Then I looked at the back, and found that the switches for those channels were in the "balanced" position. Duh! Sometimes it's the simplest things that we forget, while in a hurry to just listen to our new toys. I'm glad you found the problem, and that it wasn't serious.
