Distances were more accurate for me as well, but the EQ was virtually unchanged. I too, adjust/tweak EQ to taste. I've never much listened to CD with PLII until yesterday but for non-critical listening. I liked what I heard but will have to do some more serious listening before making final judgement.

RSavage, AudioMancer & Geebo: The reason I'm knitpicking with these questions is that I do not have the expertrize nor the convenience of doing FW updates like you guys. The very reason I've not ordered one as yet. As a result, I need to get a UMC-1 that operates reliably in certain areas critical to me. So, please bear with me.
The latest FW gives me great hope. And, I must have an AVP before Christmas. Hence my exuberance. So, tell me everything you can about this latest FW. Thanx!

jam, I think we've pretty covered it all honestly. The thing is rock solid, no drops of any kind, no shutdown issues, no video lockups, and it even sounds better than before. I know I'm one happy camper with this thing now. I would honestly buy it without hesitation.

Don't get paralyzed by your research. You have been around long enough to have a good idea what the UMC is all about. The latest update is yet another big step forward. Lonnie stated yesterday that all shipping UMCs from today on will have 7.02.05 installed. Here's my recommendation...for what it's worth. If you are really paranoid, wait for a couple days after general release. If there isn't some HUGE new bug that pops up and takes over the world, ORDER the damned thing. Then, when you get it......just enjoy it.....don't spend all your waking hours looking for 'issues'. It's a really nice processor......it's working very well now. GO FOR IT Ray

Oh yeah, one more issue that seems to be gone, is the full screen OSD and volume. Sometimes, when I would turn on the UMC and TV, the UMC's resolution would change or something, and the OSD would take up the entire screen. Same with the pop up OSD and volume. I would have to change the resolution from auto to pass through, and then back again for it to go back to normal. Well, it hasn't done it since I loaded this FW on Sat morning, so every single issue I had(not many) is gone now.

Jamrock, I can definitely recommend the unit. More and more around here also do. Just look at Tchaik's thread: emotivalounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=preamps&thread=14806&page=1#228773And don't forget, you have a 30 day no questions asked return policy you can take advantage of. And now you can get 100 Emobucks and free shipping. Go for it, man. Worst case is you'll only be out some time. Don't forget to ask them if they will install this newest firmware before shipping. I hear you! Thank you very much guys. I'm on my last few hours before check in time. Still not sure if I want the over exposure to the X-ray machine or to be fondled by an ugly guy! Ugggh! I will have the UMC-1 by 12/03/10 when I return. Keep on posting. I will be able to see your posts but not able to respond. Many, Many Thanx!

You never know, it might not be some ugly guy. Maybe it'll be some chick that looks just like Jessica Alba.

Hmm, from the posts this far, the latest firmware seems to be a winner! Can't wait for the general release!

After being assured by Lonnie that public discussion was indeed allowed, here are some very brief and informal observations on 7.02.05: I concur with most everything that has been posted by others.... My initial install was more problematic than normal. The DSP code took 5 attempts with my system setup exactly as it has been in the past. Once the DSP finally loaded, the main code went in on the first try. No idea why this one might be any more difficult than others, but that's what happened here. Once installed: Improved lock times Improved mode change times Changing channels on cable is virtually instant now The big thing for me is the improved audio quality....particularly in 2 channel stereo. I think many of you will be VERY pleasantly surprised. I've been very happy with my UMC, but always felt there was just that 'something' lacking in the audio department. Well, Lonnie has found where it was hiding! I won't go into a bunch of subjective detail at this point, you guys will be able to judge for yourselves. Needless to say, I'm VERY happy with the new and improved UMC Ray edit: For those with the AIX setup/sample disc.....it works now ! R You're not finished yet buster! ;D. What about: Center channel drop outs? Power down/up lockups? DTS HD/MA play back? Emo-Q accuracy / consistency? For me personally. Please play a stereo CD overlaid with DPL IIx music mode and tell me how it sounds! I know that others (the 4) has reported improvements or elimination of the problems with the above issues. Just trying to make sure that it is consistent for everyone. jamrock. ;D ;D ;D I was playing a 2 channel PCM fed stream with PLIIx (music mode I think, the default) and it sounded sweet, it really sound like it was in stereo but with some extra ambience. VERY nice. More listening to be done (I only installed it during lunch today and had a quick play). Emo-Q seems to be the same as it was - I only ran it once and all distances were +1ft, but I have left them there as they do seem equally balanced. Levels looked pretty good. Crossover for mains needed adjustment from their "Full" setting, per REW, as setting of 65 to 80 seems best. I need a lot more time with it to make any real comments, but those were the first things I noticed. Also, the fixing of the DV mode display is fantastic, it shows the correct 4 modes now.

OMG. Does it fix audio dropout ? You know, when changing from optical to HDMI, for example ? It's the only thing I ask.

7.02.00.05. Lonnie released it to five of us last night. It should be released on Monday. Pauly, can you add the version number to the thread title. It would help in identifying it from past and future "new FW" threads. Cheers, Dave.
