Currently my system is setup using a pair of UPA-1's to power my Paradigm reference studio 100V5 (L/R) and the XPA-5 to power the studio CC690V5 center and my studio surrounds (including back surrounds). I am now anxiously awaiting for my 2 XPA-1 to replace the UPA-1 for the Paradigm Reference studio 100's (front L/F). I should be getting my XPA-1's this Wednesday. My question is, should I leave the studio CC-690, which is a pretty large center speaker with a single channel off the XPA-5 or would it give me better performance/headroom if I use the pair of UPA-1, now freed up by XPA-1, bi-amped to the studio CC-690?

Firstly, I have to say I am envious! I have the same speakers and I want to do the same with XPA-1s... one day! In theory, bi-amping should give you improved performance.. however... For movies and dialog, I don't know if you'll hear much of a difference between the 2 approaches you're proposed with the CC. For multi-channel music, it's also doubtful. Of course this is my opinion and YMMV. I eagerly look forward to hearing of your experience, no matter which option you go with.

I think using the 2 x UPA-1s would certainly balance things a bit. There is usually a lot going on in movies in the centre channel, plus it will separate your fronts and surrounds more.

Thank you Hemster and Nemesis. I think I will go with the dual UPA-1 option for the center channel and leave the XPA-5 strickly for the surrounds. I probably may not hear any difference but I think it's the most optimal setup with the equipment that I have.

With the center being the most important since its where most vocals come from, for sure try the 2 amps on it, I would if I had the stock.
