thanks BoB, I'm really happy wih it. that thing really puts out (like a cheap date) and i think most folks will be fooled by it's size. now that the 12 is in my main HT room and i moved the 10 to the basement office small HT setup it has in fact breathed new life into that system. I am incredibly happy with it and how well both the 12 & 10 work for me

Seriously? How am I supposed to make a decision on a new sub for my HT when I read stuff like this, and I have to look at another sub outside of the original 3 that I've narrowed it down to? ;D Looks like I may have to look into the US12 now. Originally, I had narrowed it down to the Rhythmik F15, Rel T5 or the SVS SB12-NSD. Now I have to consider the US12? Oh, the search never ends.

All of the subs you listed are better then the Ultra 12 IMO, so I would not add to your list. Now you may want to consider two U12 instead of the others..
BTW.. Before I get flamed for my comment, I have two U12's.
Cheers

I figured I had a good short list, but I can't make up my mind on one for more than a day. ;D As for adding the US12, it's interesting, because when you see such good reviews, you figure it deserves a second look. Then you consider cost factors, shipping, customs to Canada, and some of the lower priced competitors tend to look better. I don't know, I'll still read more about the US12, but whether it will make the short list or not remains to be seen.

Yeah.. Shipping to Canada is a pain. Lucky for me I travel through Buffalo quite a bit and had them shipped there and brought them back in my car..

to further my testing of my new US12 i watched parts of "master and commander" and "percy jackson and the lightning thief" both of these movies have fierce LFE in them, the opening attack on M&C, the minotaur and hydra attacks in "PJ& the LT" all reminded and reinforced my belief that i made the right choice with this sub. the US10 that was moved to the basement small secondary HT setup is working wonders down there, 100% difference! thank you so much Emotiva for these subs, they are incredible!

I have had two of these bad boys since May. This article just confirms my feelings.. Obviously not the best sub out there, but for the price you cannot go wrong. I feel two of these are better then a number of much more expensive single subs. I wish they had come out with the black matte finish to begin with. Had they done that I probably would have bought one or two of these instead of the Hsu that I have now. There's nothing wrong with the Hsu and I think it is a really good sub but there's something very appealing about having two subs (just like using two XPA-1's). ;D Also, it was nice how the article pointed out the construction/build quality of the Ultra 12. That is something I've found true about all the Emo gear I have or have had - they don't skimp on materials or design. The Emo speakers I had were of very nice quality even down to the plates, screws/bolts and other little things that were used. Though their prices are low compared to the competition, that doesn't mean there is any reduction in quality. Hey monkumonku....sounds like you're really on the fence about this dual sub thing, lol. Let me tell ya, once you've experienced having dual subs, you won't go back! For me, going dual was about as dramatic as listening to FM vs AM. Emotiva is not far from me, and about 3 months ago I was about to visit there while I was in Franklin. Eric and Vincent graciously took up about 3 hours with me showing and demonstrating all of their gear. Actually, I more impressed by the sound of their subs than their speakers. At least in the way they had them all eq'd at that time. The Ultra's were pretty damn amazing...especially considering the price. For value/price/quality/sound, it's like what Vanns is selling the OMD's for right now....can't be beat. I would encourage to sell the HSU, which shouldn't be hard to do, and pick up a matched set of these. You won't regret it.

As an owner of dual Ultra 12 subs, I have to throw in another endorsement here. A couple of these puppies will add some nice low end to your HT setup...I read the review as well and I agree with every word it says. You will FEEL the bass and watching movies with these subs rumbling is a LOT of fun. Do be sure you spend the time to adjust the phase properly while you are setting them up. I didn't do that when I first bought mine (didn't really know/understand phase) and I wasn't to impressed at first. I invited a friend over to have a listen and he was like "That bass sounds like crap dude!" I explained that I was aware but didn't know how to fix it. He helped me to set them up and adjust the phase that day (not difficult once you know how)...since then I have been !!! After owning these subs I realize how important variable phase really is. I will not own any subs that do not contain this feature going forward. Very valuable. I do want to say this as advice, regardless of what subs you buy... Buy two of the same sub woofer. If you can afford to spend X amount of money on bass for your system, then split that money in half and buy two subs at that price...or double it and but two subs at THAT price! ;D Good luck with whatever you choose.

Stop torturing me!! ;D So I have a question - does it make much difference if the subwoofer is facing to the left or right instead of facing the room? Like if the one on the left faces the room but the one on the right side has the woofer facing to the left.

Okay, another question -- Is using an SMS-1 going to significantly improve things? I know it can only do one equalization curve that applies to all the subs connected to it (as opposed to doing separate curves for each sub). I have one right now and wonder if it is worth keeping to use with two subs IF I go that route for a couple of the Emo subs, or if I should put it up for sale with the Hsu? I do like the Hsu sub but hearing what people say about having two subs is tempting me to try it. I don't have enough room for two Hsu subs. The Emo subs are like baby bear subs - "just right" when it comes to the amount of space they take up. So keep the SMS-1 or not? Part of it is I don't want to have to put out a lot of money. I figure I can sell the Hsu plus the SMS for just about what two of the Emo 12's would cost and thus break even.

I'd recommend keeping the SMS-1. I'm using it with an Anti-Mode 8033 to run a pair of Epik Empires, & later today when my Monoprice order arrives, I'm going to add a pair of Ultra 12s to the mix & run all 4 subs off the SMS-1/Anti-Mode 8033 combo.
